1899: The Eiffel Tower Bicycle “Here we see the Eiffel Tower cycle; although not as tall as the tower in question, it is still too high to ridden by anyone other than a daredevil. There are, however, many such daredevils, and one does occasionally see riders of the cycle in larger cities. I have seen such cycles here in Chicago, and always ridden with great care and attention. Often the bicycle carries an advertising placard – mostly cigars”
