It is great to watch the Black Skimmer parents. Not only do they lure the chick out of the nest before they feed them. They challenge them physically and make them reach for it! This few day old chick made a successful grab on the third try.

Working with the Red cockaded woodpeckers in the Withlacoochee State Forest has given me the opportunity to observe and photograph other woodpeckers that also inhabit the Long leaf pine forest habitats.

This is a collage of wildlife that commonly inhabits the Florida Pineland habitats. This collage was create for my final project in the Florida Master Naturalist Program - Uplands Habitat Course. The collage was cut into a puzzle and the classroom activity was to piece together the puzzle and identify the 33 species represented in the collage.

    I was graced with honor of having this poster put on display in the Withlacoochee State Forest field office here in Florida.

I was able to capture this special moment of a mother great crested flycatcher feeding her newly fledged chick while peeking through a the crook of an Austrailian Pine tree. It reminded me of peeking through the knot holes of a wooden fence when I was young. That memory inspired me to create this piece....and having the excitement of seeing something that we shouldn't have....
