In 1979, Internet and "Dot-COM" pioneer Emmit J. McHenry and a few associates launched an engineering company which they named Network Solutions, Inc. (NSI). NSI won a single contract to manage the Domain Name System (DNS). Mr. McHenry was awarded National #BDPA's Washington, D.C. Chapter Lifetime Achievement Award during the association's 35th Anniversary Awards Gala.
Lieutenant General Robert S. Ferrell, U.S. Army, took over as the Army's Chief Information Officer (CIO/G-6), Jan. 6, 2014, and was confirmed to the position and new rank by the U.S. senate, Dec. 20, 2013. General Ferrell was the first African-American to hold the position.
