This is some crazy shit...Did you know that Michelangelo never signed his paintings? He didn't see himself as a painter..he would have preferred to be known as a sculptor but when the Pope tells you he wants you to paint the Sistine Chapel...you paint the Sistine Chapel! So instead he would paint a self portrait in his paintings....You can see this evident in this pic of the Christian they scun .....he's the bloke with his skin in his hand...thats Michelangelos self portrait in the skin!

Michelangelo, Sistine Chapel Ceiling. One of the greatest works of art ever. (Vatican, Vatican City, Rome, Italy), 1508-12
Sistine Chapel ceiling, Michelangelo Buonarroti. The Sistine Chapel ceiling, painted by Michelangelo between 1508 and 1512, is a cornerstone work of High Renaissance art. The ceiling is that of the large Papal Chapel built within the Vatican between 1477 and 1480 by Pope Sixtus IV after whom it is named, and was painted at the commission of Pope Julius II. Central to the ceiling decoration are nine scenes from the Book of Genesis of which the Creation of Adam is the best known.

Michelangelo's "Pieta," 1498, St. Peter's Basilica, Vatican City, Rome, Italy. Saw this up-close in-person. One of the greatest works of sculpture in the entire world.
The Pieta : Artist - Michelangelo Housed in St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City. It is the first of a number of works of the same theme by the artist. The statue was commissioned for the French cardinal Jean de Billheres, who was a representative in Rome. The statue was made for the cardinal's funeral monument, but was moved to its current location, the first chapel on the right as one enters the basilica, in the 18th century. It is the only piece Michelangelo ever signed . This famous work of art depicts the body of Jesus on the lap of his mother Mary after the Crucifixion. The theme is of Northern origin, popular by that time in France but not yet in Italy. Michelangelo's interpretation of the Pietà is unique to the precedents. It is an important work as it balances the Renaissance ideals of classical beauty with naturalism. The statue is one of the most highly finished works by Michelangelo.
Michelangelo's Pieta. This work shows Jesus' mother Mary holding Him in her arms after He has been removed from the Cross. The sculpture is displayed in St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City. I was fortunate enough to see it in person, and now, being a mother, appreciate it even more.
