R is for RANUNCULUS. It comes in many varieties. This example is commonly known by its prettier name, Persian Buttercup. It is a tuber that produces long-lasting rosette shaped flowers in a wide variety of colors and is often featured in bouquets.

Hochschwab Mountains, in Tragoess, Styria, Green Lake is one of the most bizarre natural phenomena in the world. Crystal clear lake in the summer, almost dry in the winter.

A rare natural phenomenon turns one of Austria’s most beautiful hiking trails into a 10 meter-deep lake, for half the year. Located at the foot of the Hochschwab Mountains, in Tragoess, Styria, Green Lake is one of the most bizarre natural phenomena in the world. During the cold winter months, this place is almost completely dry, and used as a country park where hikers love to come and spend some time away from urban chaos. But as soon as temperatures rise, the snow and ice covering the mountaintops begin to melt, and the water pours down, filling the basin below with crystal-clear water. Water levels go from one-two meters at most, to over 10 meters, in the early summer. The waters of Green Lake are highest in June, when this extraordinary place is invaded by divers, curious to see what a mountain park looks like underwater. Fish swimming over wooden benches, a grass-covered bottom, trees, roads, roads and even bridges create a surreal setting that feels like it belongs on dry ground. That’s because for half of the year, that’s exactly where it’s at. Take a look at the amazing images of the Green Lake, shot during the summer season:
This is one of the most bizarre natural phenomena in the world: Austria's Green Lake in the Hochschwab Mountains is a hiking trail in the winter. The snow melts in early summer and creates a completely clear lake almost 10 meters deep. The lake has a grassy bottom, complete with underwater trails, park benches, trees, and bridges.

Harvest moon on the beach...so beautiful!
ohhh beautiful! The moon is touching the ocean! (It's too bad those people are in this pic, however.)
The Moon La Luna
SUPER MOON: Tonight's full Moon is a "super moon," as much as 14% bigger and 30% brighter than other full moons of 2012. The phenomenon, also known as a perigee moon, is caused by the elliptical shape of the Moon's orbit around Earth. Big, nearby moons like this come along about once a year; they are harmless, beautiful, and, seen from certain angles, very romantic. 05/05/12

"Eternal Lightning Fields, Venezuela. For ten hours each night for up to 160 nights per year -- This is a photo sequence containing 70 lightning, taken at Ikaria island during a severe thunderstorm that took place the night of the total lunar eclipse at June 15, 2011 by Chris Kotsiopoulos"
"Relámpago del Catatumbo" (Catatumbo lightning) is a natural phenomenon located at the mouth of the Catatumbo river in Venezuela. Cloud to cloud lighting forms above the area 140-160 nights a year, for up to 10 hours a night. Lightning travels from cloud to cloud up to 280 times an HOUR. Several different explanations have been proposed for the near constantly lightning storm, including methane produced from local swamps, oil deposits, uranium in the bedrock and local air currents.
In Venezuela, just above the mouth of the Catatumbo River, a lightning storm has been raging for at least 2 centuries. I know that sounds like science fiction, or some hackneyed fantasy villain's lair - but it's real. For 160 nights out of the year, the Catatumbo lightning strikes for 10 straight hours, at a rate of nearly 300 strikes per hour. Short of trees growing in the shape of a human skull or a good ol' screaming bog, that is the single best way Nature knows to tell you a place is cursed.
This is another photo taken by one of our favorite nature photographers from Greece, Chris Kotsiopoulos. This is an image sequence containing 70 lightning shots, taken at Ikaria island during a severe thunderstorm. This storm took place on the night of the lunar eclipse (June 25, 2011) with the camera programmed to take a picture every twenty seconds for 83 minutes.
Wouldn't this be an amazing vacation?

Plitvice Lakes National Park, Croatia bucket list
UMM WOW!! Plitvice National Park, Croatia - It owes its fame to the 16 lakes of crystal clear water in all shades of green, grey and blue linked by nearly a hundred tumbling cascades, as well as to the dense forests of beech, fir and pines where bears and wolves roam, and which are home to a great variety of birds. Plitvice is classed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. I want to go!
Croatia is quickly becoming one of Europe’s most sought after travel destinations. The Mediterranean climes of the Adriatic coastline, combined with the rich history of cities like Split (which boasts Roman Ruins), and Dubrovnik, which claims one of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites, Plitvice Park.
Winter wonderland. So ready for this!
