My favorite book cover ever!
It's been a while since I read a sci-fi YA book, but this one definitely falls into the category of great Friday reads. The story revolves around Cara, an ambitious, but genuinely caring high school student with a dream of landing a college scholarship, who introduces Aelyx, an alien exchange student from L'eihr, to earth customs and high school life. Contact with L'eihr is fairly new and Aelyx is a first contact with humans in Midtown. And he is not convinced reaching out to the humans on...

Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor This book has been going nuts over on Goodreads so I thought I would pick it up and give it a go. I am not a big fan of Young Adult Fantasy as I usually find it patronising and 'childish' (well what else would you expect from books aimed at teenagers) but this one is different. The book is set in a beautiful location and is not afraid to challenge the reader with its language.
Daughter of Smoke and Bone #1.In a dark and dusty shop, a devil's supply of human teeth grown dangerously low. And in the tangled lanes of Prague, a young art student is about to be caught up in a brutal other wordly war. Meet Karou. Who is she? he fills her sketchbooks with monsters that may or may not be real; she's prone to disappearing on mysterious "errands"; she speaks many languages not all of them human and her bright blue hair actually grows out of her head that color. Who is she?

Unwind, Neal Shusterman - After the Second Civil War, a law was enforced to protect reproduction rights. Unwind by Neal Shusterman. Dystopian fiction. You may be harvested.
A young adult book but a good read for anyone. Unwind by Neal Shusterman. Although the concept initially seems far fetched, the world that Shusterman creates is terrible and fascinating to behold. Add into the equation three main characters who have been sent off to be "unwound" that are endearing and tragic in completely separate ways, and you end up with a truly engrossing book that you will not want to put down.
Unwind by Neal Shusterman Re-read. This book was even better than I remembered it, and I COULD NOT WAIT for our teen book club to discuss it. Unfortunately, my gallbladder had alternate plans and the book club had to meet without me. Booo! The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa. The best Y.A. Vampire book I have ever read, hands down. The book is about Allison who has to choose between death and becoming a vampire, the thing she hates most, in order to survive. After becoming and learning how to be a vampire, she is forced to flee the city and joins a band of humans who are seeking a cure for the rabids, the mindless creatures who threaten humans and vampires. There's a bit of romance thrown in, but it's really about survival

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. another book on my top ten list of all time favorite books. Its disturbing in the best possible way. Its a series that doesn't coddle you and isn't coated in sugar like many of the recent young adult litereature(Twilight). Its gritty and grim, and will leave you worn out from an emotional roller coaster. It has a depth to it that many YA fiction authors are afraid to use. And speaking of YA Fiction, this series isn't limited to youth, it can touch those of any age. Definitely a series worth reading.
