It's been a while since I read a sci-fi YA book, but this one definitely falls into the category of great Friday reads. The story revolves around Cara, an ambitious, but genuinely caring high school student with a dream of landing a college scholarship, who introduces Aelyx, an alien exchange student from L'eihr, to earth customs and high school life. Contact with L'eihr is fairly new and Aelyx is a first contact with humans in Midtown. And he is not convinced reaching out to the humans on...

Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor This book has been going nuts over on Goodreads so I thought I would pick it up and give it a go. I am not a big fan of Young Adult Fantasy as I usually find it patronising and 'childish' (well what else would you expect from books aimed at teenagers) but this one is different. The book is set in a beautiful location and is not afraid to challenge the reader with its language.

Unwind (Unwind Dystology Series #1) by Neal Shusterman. Young adult, classroom appropriate.
Dystopian Fiction. Second Civil War has come and past - over Abortion rights. Neither side could win. Compromise. Once conceived, a child can not be aborted. However, once the child turns 13, until (s)he turns 18, if the parent no longer wants the child, (s)he is UNWOUND. Not killed. Unwound. Every single piece of the teen's body is transplant to someone else who needs the organ. That way, the teen goes on living through many other people.
Unwind, Neal Shusterman - After the Second Civil War, a law was enforced to protect reproduction rights. Parents can choose to have their kids unwound, harvesting children’s organs and body parts for donors. The story is SUPER creepy, but completely addicting. Best series ever, better than hunger games

Book review - 'The Immortal Rules' Blood of Eden Series Book 1 by Julie Kagawa
The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa. The best Y.A. Vampire book I have ever read, hands down. The book is about Allison who has to choose between death and becoming a vampire, the thing she hates most, in order to survive. After becoming and learning how to be a vampire, she is forced to flee the city and joins a band of humans who are seeking a cure for the rabids, the mindless creatures who threaten humans and vampires. There's a bit of romance thrown in, but it's really about survival
All around awesome book cover!
