Dick King-Smith is well-known for his animal stories and Babe is by far the best. No wonder that it was made into a movie! We just finished reading it aloud to our 5-7 year olds. Recommended as a read aloud for early readers and a read alone for advanced readers. Colloquialisms and local English expressions may need some explanation for early readers even if they acn generally read well. Wonderful, heartwarming story.

This is the most classic children's book in my opinion. I grew up with Pooh Bear costumes for Halloween, and "Winnie-the-Pooh" CDs in the car. Pooh teaches many lessons that are important for young kids to learn. Pooh is empathetic and grateful and surrounds himself with good friends. The cast portrays all different typed of personalities, and it's common to learn that someone has a specific character that they relate to. I think Pooh is a cultural influence on the younger generations.

There is a reason that Winnie the Pooh has never gone out of style. The adventures of Christopher Robin and his friends ensue as Pooh Bear uses a balloon to get honey, Piglet meets a Heffalump, and Eeyore has a birthday. Title: The Tale of Despereaux Author: Kate DiCamillo This would be a fun story for 3rd graders. I would use this story for read-alouds as well as silent reading for students. Many classroom activites can come from this story!
The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo. Third favorite book of all time, I've lost track of how many times I've read it. Very unique, and as a book lover, I can't name one book which is like it.
The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo Despereaux Tilling was born with his eyes open, a very strange way for a mouse to come into this world. Things get stranger as he behaves in un-mouse like ways, for one.. falling in love with a human princess. This is also a story about a dungeon, a rat named Roscuro, and a girl named Miggery Sow. This (sometimes twisted/dark) fairy tale is very engaging and does well as a read aloud (currently reading to my 3rd graders!).
