Book Review: Fortunately, The Milk - by Neil Gaiman This book is not only funny but entertaining, with the illustrations by Skottie Young which help to tell the story.
Neil Gaiman fans, rejoice! The author is releasing a new children’s book this fall and it sounds wacky and delightful. Fortunately, The Milk is the story of a father who goes out to get milk for his children, but he gets sidetracked by a stegosaurus on a hot air balloon, dinosaur police, a ridiculous amount of time travel, and more.

Dick King-Smith is well-known for his animal stories and Babe is by far the best. No wonder that it was made into a movie! We just finished reading it aloud to our 5-7 year olds. Recommended as a read aloud for early readers and a read alone for advanced readers. Colloquialisms and local English expressions may need some explanation for early readers even if they acn generally read well. Wonderful, heartwarming story.

Winnie the Pooh by A.A. Milne is well-known children's book that introduced the well beloved characters of Edward "Winnie the Pooh" Bear and his friends. Some notable stories include Pooh having to deal with some pesky bees, Pooh finding Eeyore's tail and Piglet getting surrounded by water. While the stories are very child friendly some of them are very long. A shorter story does better for a very young child. Children eight and older are usually able to sit through the longer stories.

This modern fantasy children’s book is about the make believe borrowers who hide in a family’s house and borrow things as they need. The Tale of Despereaux: Being the Story of a Mouse, a Princess, Some Soup and a Spool of Thread by Kate DiCamillo. Zoe's first chapter book, a delightful adventure for both of us.
Grade 3 Up-A charming story of unlikely heroes whose destinies entwine to bring about a joyful resolution. Foremost is Despereaux, a diminutive mouse who, as depicted in Ering's pencil drawings, is one of the most endearing of his ilk ever to appear in children's books.
The Tale of Despereaux. Now, this might be a children's book and I read it when I was younger, but for a children's book it is beautifully written and has such an adorable story line but yet is tense, I know it's funny, but it just is a good book. One of my favorites.
This is a really cute fairy tale with a twist: the night in shining armor is a mouse. Despereaux is a mouse who is sent to the dungeon to die by his fellow mice as a result of his love for the princess. But Despereaux is no ordinary mouse; he is determined to escape the horrors of the dungeon and win the heart of the princess.
With an intro like "The world is dark , and light is precious. Come closer, dear reader. You must trust me. I am telling you a story" you know this is no mere kids book but rather a story of deep darkness and even deeper courage.
The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo Despereaux Tilling was born with his eyes open, a very strange way for a mouse to come into this world. Things get stranger as he behaves in un-mouse like ways, for one.. falling in love with a human princess. This is also a story about a dungeon, a rat named Roscuro, and a girl named Miggery Sow. This (sometimes twisted/dark) fairy tale is very engaging and does well as a read aloud (currently reading to my 3rd graders!).
The Tale of Despereaux. Perfect read aloud chapter book for children.
