“The Garden of Earthly Delights (Central Panel: The Garden)” c.1480-90 by Bosch. Oil on wood (220x195cm). Prado Museum. Depicts humanity with free will, in various sexual activities. The impression of a life lived without consequence is underscored by the absence of children and old people. There was no boundary between good and evil. Gibson describes figures "overtly and without shame". Fränger's wrote: "after expiation of Original Sin, humanity were permitted to return in a state of harmony".

From Voyages made in the years 1788 and 1789 from China to the northwest coast of America. Italian. The artists would often draw from rough description rather than direct reference...or they'd draw something upon first encountering it (in this case I'm assuming it was a Narwhal or a seal).
https://flic.kr/p/9Gg5Wu | I. Grampusa Mostro Marino II. Vitello Marino III. Goulù Mostro de Mari d'America. | Three monstruous sea creatures or fish. One has a horn in its forehead, and another is striped and has claws. Items are numbered for identification in key at bottom of image. Book title: 'Viaggi dalla China alla costa nord-ovest d'America fatti negli anni 1788 e 1789' [Voyages made in the years 1788 and 1789 from China to the northwest coast of America. Italian] The grampus is now identified as either an orca or Grampus griseus (Risso's dolphin), but both these species have fins while this illustration does not. The vitello marino or sea calf may be a seal. The horn on the goulu would indicate that it is a narwhal, but that animal's habitat is the Atlantic Ocean. It might be Xiphias gladius, the swordfish. Text notes that these creatures were found near the entrance to Juan de Fuca Strait.John Meares made two trips to northwestern North America, one in 1786-1787 and the other in 1788-1789, both with false papers in the hope of trading for furs on lands claimed by Spain. His activities nearly sparked a war with Spain. He was also accused by his more respectable fellow mariners of having aggrandized his accomplishments. Vintage Anatomy Wounded Man ~ Curious Prints
Wound Man.. is an illustration which first appeared in European surgical texts in the Middle Ages. It laid out schematically the various wounds a person might suffer in battle or in accidents, often with surrounding or accompanying text stating treatments for the various injuries. It first appeared in print in Johannes de Ketham's Fasciculus Medicinae (Venice, 1492) and was used often in surgical texts throughout the sixteenth century and even into the seventeen

Caravaggio's Judith Beheading Holofernes "I chose this painting due largely to the facial expression on Judith's face as she beheads Holofernes (whoever that was, gotta look it up). This was fun Katie Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio (Milan, 28 September 1571 - Porto Ercole, 18 July 1610) was an Italian artist active in Rome, Naples, Malta and Sicily between 1593 and 1610. He is commonly placed in the Baroque school, of which he is considered the first great representative."
Art and Art History. Painter: Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio . Painting: .Judith Beheading Holofernes His paintings always stand out to me because of the disturbing realism in them. I've always thought he was definitely underrated
