In Denmark, 1950, two brothers were digging peat to be used as fuel when they came across what is now known as the tollund man. he still had hair, skin, and a five o'clock shadow, so they assumed it was a recent murder victim and called the police. upon arrival, they noticed rope around his neck: this wasn't a recent murder victim. in fact, the body was from 300-400 BC, and was shockingly well preserved by the peat. 'I’ve asked myself again and again whether it wouldn’t have been better if we hadn’t gone into hiding, if we were dead now and didn’t have to go through this misery, especially so that the others could be spared the burden. But we all shrink from this thought. We still love life, we haven’t yet forgotten the voice of nature, and we keep hoping, hoping for…everything.' - Anne Frank at age 11, 1941 Anne Boleyn, Anne Frank, Harriet Tubman, Florence Nightingale, Anne, Marie Antoinette, Anna

80 years since the Black Famine in Ukraine. "There were instances when people who were still alive were buried together with the dead. Vasyl Tanchyk, my neighbour, died, and his wife died, but their small child, a suckler, was still alive. It clung to her mother’s breasts. The tiny child was taken to the cemetery and thrown into the grave with the body of her dead mother. It crawled into the corner and the dirt was thrown on top of her.” Crime, Horrific, Genocide, Strange, Hunger, Macabre, Creepy

In the mid 1800's Caroline Norton was in a loveless marriage to a man who beat her savagely. She was thrown out of her own home, and forbidden access to her children. In those days, married women were put into the same category as "lunatics, idiots, outlaws and children." Their rights were in the hands of others. Caroline's intense campaigning led to the passing of the Custody of Infants Act 1839, the Matrimonial Causes Act 1857 and the Married Women's Property Act 1870.
