1Q84 - Aomame "30 years old... 5'6"... Not an ounce of excess fat... Every muscle in her body was well toned... The left ear much bigger than the right, and malformed, but her shoulder-length hair always covers her ears... Lips formed a tight straight line... Small narrow nose, somewhat protruding cheekbones, broad forehead, and long, straight eyebrows... [Face is a] Pleasing oval shape... Extreme paucity of expression." ❤
Haruki Murakami,1Q84 (2011) You never thought that random guy you work with would come up to you and start talking about Japan’s most popular writer, how he really dug that reading all 1000-plus pages of his latest work to be translated into English. Then 1Q84 came out, and suddenly you found out just how many people love Haruki Murakami.
Surreal. "Say it's only a paper moon... But it wouldn't be make-believe, If you believed in me." Interesting take on love with hints of blurred realities. What's not to love? (Well if you can't stand repetition, dream-like states, alternate realities, or imaginative magical moments, do not pick up this hefty read.)

"The Language Of Flowers"
Worth Reading, Language Of Flowers, Book Club, Foster Care, The Foster, Book Worth, Vanessa Diffenbaugh, Languages Of Flower, Bookclub
The Language of Flowers by Vanessa Diffenbaugh. The Victorian language of flowers was used to express emotions. But for Victoria Jones, it has been more useful in communicating feelings like grief, mistrust and solitude. After a childhood spent in the foster care system, she is unable to get close to anybody, and her only connection to the world is through flowers and their meanings. Now eighteen, she has nowhere to go, and sleeps in a public park, where she plants a small garden of her own.
The Language of Flowers. A second chances book worth reading.
My first pick for book club. a phenomenal book about a girl who grew up in the foster care system…one of the homes she lived in she learned of the language of flowers from the Victorian age. When she aged out of the foster care system, she was homeless, and landed a job in a floral shop and used her skills which helps her work through her past.

Goodreads | Winter Garden by Kristin Hannah - Reviews, Discussion, Bookclubs, Lists
I love Kristin Hannah. Her books are so well written, easy to read and totally enjoyable! This one was very good...it is one that is split between the present and the past. The past takes place in revolutionary Russia, which I find so interesting. It is a story of the repair and discovery of a relationship between a mother and her two daughters. A definite book worth reading!
Winter Garden by Kristin Hannah. Winter Garden is a mesmerizing and enchanting novel about survival, enduring love, family, and the choices that can forever haunt you. Be prepared to cry! My favorite book thus far
Great book, just finished it with my book club! Winter Garden - Kristin Hannah book
SO good. I've had several of her books sitting in my elibrary that I hadn't read. I guess I thought they were Chick Lit for some reason. This is a great story with contemporary family drama interwoven with historical fiction. Winter Garden would be a good book club discussion.

This is a wonderful story about the participants in a cooking school.
The School of Essential Ingredients by Erica Bauermeister. Eight students gather in Lillian's Restaurant every Monday night for cooking class. It soon becomes clear, however, that each one seeks a recipe for something beyond the kitchen as Chef Lillian, a woman whose connection with food is both soulful and exacting, helps them to create dishes whose flavor and techniques expand beyond the restaurant and into the secret corners of her students' lives.

The Book Thief: Markus Zusak My very favorite book this year! I listened to it on Audible and the narration was superb. Great book about WW2 for teens too.
The Book Thief - Markus Zusak - Google Books - I'm reading this now and this is definitely a book worth reading.
The extraordinary #1 New York Times bestseller that is now a major motion picture, Markus Zusak's unforgettable story is about the ability of books to feed the soul. It is 1939. Nazi Germany. The country is holding its breath. Death has never been busier, and will become busier still. Liesel Meminger is a foster girl living outside of Munich, who scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can’t resist–books. #ReviewBook #TheBookThief #MarkusZusak

Susan Monk Kidd- "The Secret Life of Bees" A book worth savouring and sharing.
the secret life of bees -- worth reading even if you've seen the movie
Sue Monk Kidd's ravishing debut novel has stolen the hearts of reviewers and readers alike with its strong, assured voice. Set in South Carolina in 1964, The Secret Life of Bees tells the story of Lily Owens, whose life has been shaped around the blurred memory of the afternoon her mother was killed. When Lily's fierce-hearted "stand-in mother," Rosaleen, insults three of the town's fiercest racists, Lily decides they should both escape to Tiburon, South Carolina....

Kind... Smart... Important. From "the Help," an outstanding book & movie!! This is one of my favorite quotes. It is, however, sad that Aibileen was the only person saying these kind, confidence boosting things to that sweet little girl :-(
This is a great movie quote from "The Help".

Jean-Honore Fragonard Young Girl Reading 1770 National Gallery of Art, DC I LOVE this painting. It combines two of my favorite things, beautiful art and reading. I have a postcard of it on my bookshelf at home and when I went to my friend Kara's house last weekend she had a big print of it in her home. The colors and style are gorgeous.
