This was a fun and easy lesson I did with my 1st grade class. I think that oil pastels are my new favorite material. I love the way they blend and mix together. I allowed the students to make their own types of backgrounds. Hint: WORK LIGHT TO DARK! I used yellow/orange pastel first and traced the inside left sides of the ovals on the left.
