Presently reading "Beyond Religion" by @dalailama - great book
I'd like to read this.... In his new book "Beyond Religion: Ethics for a Whole World" His Holiness the Dalai Lama argues that religion is not a necessity for pursuing a spiritual life. Rather he proposes a system of secular ethics that transcends religion as a way to recognize our common humanity and so contributes to a global human community based on understanding and mutual respect. http://dalaila.ma/sqdkpL

I seriously love this man...
http://books.google.com/books?id=QaYbM0Fvch8C&dq;=i+am+america+and+so+can+you&hl;=en&sa;=X&ei;=HSYXT8rTAqG90AHihPXbAg&ved;=0CDAQ6AEwAA Stephen Colbert was The Daily Show's longest-running and most memorable correspondent. His right-wing, super-patriotic persona, his insight and general rightness led to The Colbert Report, a half-hour TV platform for his views on the issues of the day and, more importantly, why everyone else's views are just plain wrong. I Am America (And So Can You!) features Stephen's most deeply held knee-jerk beliefs on everything from The Family to Race and Immigration and provides the ultimate satirical guide to the glorious marvel that is American Life. He bravely takes on the forces aligned to destroy America whether they be terrorists, environmentalists, or brand-name breakfast cereals and tackles difficult issues like religion, sexuality, and nature ('I've never trusted the sea. What's it hiding under there?') With hilarious illustrations and charts ('Things That Are Trying to Turn Me Gay', 'Sports to Ignore' and many more) and a complete transcript of Colbert's infamous speech at the 2006 White House Correspondents' Dinner, this is a brilliant read as well as a very clever commentary on America today.

Books Worth Reading, love this book!
One of the more under appreciated books of the late 20th Century, Mark Helprin's work stretches the bounds of fiction, fantasy and the horror of WWI. The vivid descriptions of Rome, the Alps, Sicily, Venice, the array of characters and a penchant for intertwining hilarity with sorrow makes this a regular reading destination for me.

My aunt gave me this for Christmas and said everyone should read this. She's right. It's a non-fiction book that reads like a novel and everyone will find something to relate to and it's something everyone should learn about because it affects every life. I'm not done but I highly recommend it thus far!

She's Come Undone Author: Wally Lamb As endearingly familiar as Chiquita Banana jingles, Hula-Hoops and I Love Lucy, as mysterious and haunting as the cries of whales, She's Come Undone makes us laugh and wince with recognition and reminds us that despite the pain we endure and cause, we must find the courage to love again. The Life of Elizabeth I - Alison Weir . This is a history book but written in such a way that it never seems boring or dry. Weir makes Elizabeth come alive!
The Life of Elizabeth I by Alison Weir Perhaps the most influential sovereign England has ever known, Queen Elizabeth I remained an extremely private person throughout her reign, keeping her own counsel and sharing secrets with no one--not even her closest, most trusted advisers. Now, in this brilliantly researched, fascinating new book, acclaimed biographer Alison Weir shares provocative new interpretations and fresh insights on this enigmatic figure.
The Life of Elizabeth I, by Alison Weir. One of my favorite books. The in-depth descriptions of the period are engrossing.

Good Dog, Carl by Alexandra Day, "Look after the baby, Carl, I'll be back shortly." A great children's book
Good Dog, Carl -- by Alexandra Day. Excellent series of picture books for kids.
Good Dog, Carl By Alexandra Day Wordless book The mother leaves the child with the dog. They dog and child have fun throughout the day. But right before the mother gets home, the dog puts the baby back in the crib and cleans the house up. Little kids love the dog in the book. The dog can have such a mean character if it is trained that way but they can be very protective of kids if they are trained for that too. Ironic book.

'Quiet: The power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking' (2012) link should lead to a TED talk by author ~ At least one-third of the people we know are introverts. They are the ones who prefer listening to speaking, reading to partying;who innovate and create but dislike self-promotion;who favor working on their own over brainstorming in teams. It is to introverts that we owe many of the great contributions to society--from van Gogh’s sunflowers to invention of the personal computer.

Dogs in a market listen to the famous Persian poet Rumi, who praises their attention and understanding. One of many illustrations made in the late 16th century by Turkish artists. I've read little of Rumi's poetry but have admired the bits that I have seen. His poetry and these illustrations make me think of the era when Turkish, Arabic and Persian were flowering languages whose writers produced works we still read today. I do wonder what life was like then.
