Fun Math Fact Games Addition/Subtraction game. Students roll a dice, move that many spaces, add the number on the dice to the number card they landed on. Variations: +1/+2 dice. +10/+5 dice. How many more to make ten?
A deck of cards, some number generators (dice), and you've got a great basic facts game! Glenna
Fun Maths Fact Game Like this idea. Could put velcro on back of cards and rearrange cards to keep fresh.
Fun Math Fact Game. Roll the dice, move that many spaces, then add, subtract, or multiply the number you land on to stay on that space.
Fun Math Fact Games May play two different ways. One way is that they start on the first card, roll and move the number of spaces on the cube and add or subtract the number card that they were on to the number card that they rolled. The other way is that they use the number on the die and add or subtract it to the card that they are on. If they are correct they then move the number that they rolled. I hope this clarifies it a bit.
Fun Math Fact Game~ Great for review of all math facts (+, , x, ÷). Versatile and fun!

I would use this project as a math lesson. It is counting practice as well as practice with shapes. I like that it's a different approach to math, it's an art project that teaches math skills. It's a very hands on approach which I feel helps kids to learn things better.

Happy Monday, Friends ! Can you believe we're already coming up on the end of November? We are out for the whole week for Thanksgiving, and it dawned on me today that when we get back... it will be December.... WHat?!!?! Everything just keeps creeping up on me this year! I have to admit, I did decorate my house for Christmas this weekend. Yep, right down to the tiniest ornament on the tree. Mind you, I only decorated the INside... I decided it was best to keep crazy in the house, and not advertise my waytooearly decorating on the outside until after Thanksgiving. haha! Anyway, today I'm linking up with A Burst of First for her Math Monday Linky... If you've been reading my blog, we have been working on even and odd numbers. We've also been building numbers and identifying the "biggest" and the "smallest" numbers we can create. We did this little activity last week & my kids really enjoyed it. Plus, it was a great way to assess a little mathematical literacy with number sense. Score! The kids each get a stack of number cards , 0 9. They lay them flat down on their desk and pull two random cards. Then, they have to record the two numbers, the smallest number they can make with those cards, and the largest number they can make. And, since we've been working on even & odd, the kiddos had to identify if their "biggest" number was even or odd! Most of us have number cards lying around somewhere, so it was a perfect little activity to wrap up on number unit. Click the above picture if you'd like to grab this FREEBIE :) And now... THIS week.... We are diving into shapes! I gave a pretest to see just how much my kiddos knew about flat or 2D shapes, and I was super happy to find out that most of them really KNEW their shapes. Yay for K teachers! So, we made shape pizzas... I gave out the "toppings" to each table, and each kid just picked how many of each they wanted. I wanted each of the pizzas to be unique, so this was perfect for that. After making the pizza, they had to record how many of each shape they used. I reminded them that the pizza itself (the crust) was a circle, too! FUN FUN! Then, I worked with the kids on this matching center. There are 8 pizzas with varying toppings, and my firsties had to match the pizza to the correct description. It was definitely challenging, and I worked with my lower babies to assist them in making matches. My higher group had a great time working on this independently. All of this is included in my newest TpT pack Shape Pizzas! Included are all the templates to make the pizzas, the matching center with recording sheets, and 3 additional practice worksheets. You can download the preview to check it all out in action! Just click the picture or right ! Lastly... My November Guided Math centers are on sale for 25% off !! Looking for something to do with your kids for this last stretch before the holiday? Check it out! :)

If you don't own the book, Pumpkin Jack yet, you need to order it for next year! It's such a great book explaining the life cycle of a pumpkin, and you could do a fun experiment with it too! Deanna Jump has created an amazing science packet that includes an activity based on the book, Pumpkin Jack. In volume 1, there are many other activities that follow the fall seasons. You can find it here. The kids watch Jack every day, and we will add an entry in our science notebooks every week showing how Jack is decomposing. (If anyone knows how to rotate images in blogger, please leave a comment! It is frustrating me to no end! The photo is portrait in iphoto, but imports landscape! argh!) Last year, I did just the crafty pages of the Zero the Hero books. This year, I added an "All About the Number ___" page. The kids write the number, the number word, tally marks, draw that many objects in 10 frames, and for 30 stamped 30 cents. This was one of our math centers a few weeks ago. This math center is super easy to create, and came from my friend, Leslie. She's not blogging yet, but she should she always has great ideas! After we went to the pumpkin patch, the children did their pumpkin investigations. It was super fun! The idea for this sheet came from Mrs. Lee. For a fun activity learning about adjectives, we all looked very carefully at our pumpkins and came up with words to describe them. We only did the outside this year next year I'll have to remember to do this activity when we open up the pumpkin! There are a whole new set of words to go with the inside ;) We charted the words, and then wrote pumpkin poems. This is the science center I set out a variety of pumpkins and gourds for the children to explore and measure. Pumpkin Jack sits here as well too. I noticed yesterday he is just starting to mold the children will be very excited to see that on Monday! Tomorrow I will post pictures from our Monster activities and Halloween! Friday was such a crazy day that I forgot to take pictures!

PegANumber Fact is a fun maths game that allows kids to practise basic numbers sums and encourage the use of strategies to solve maths problems. It focuses on the idea of making a number using two different numbers, an addition or a subtraction of two numbers to get the same answer, which can be done with a number of combinations. For example 1 and 9 makes 10, 2 and 8 makes 10, 3 and 7 makes 10 and so on.

Whole Body Math Learning: Stomp It! Place Value Game
I love to use the floor for math activities to add motor activity! stomp it! place value math game great way to get the kids up and moving!!!
Grade Math, Math Games, Place Value Games, Maths Games For Kids, Teaching Place Value, School Math, 2Nd Grade
This DIY math game for kids is a great learning tool for kids who learn well by moving their whole bodies. I have one of those kids. Do you? When he’s not quite grasping a concept, I know it’s time to put away the books and papers and get moving. Here’s how we made a place value game to reinforce the concepts we were learning. We focused on hundreds of thousands on down, but one of my younger kids used this for thousands on down. You can adapt it to your needs. What you need: Painter’s tape. Sharpie permanent marker. Paper and scissors. How to make the game: First, I made the game board with painter’s tape on our wood floor and wrote the place values onto the tape with the Sharpie pen. I made a comma out of tape and colored it with the Sharpie. Next, we traced my son’s feet onto paper and photocopied the paper so that we had about 20 feet total. We wrote numbers on the paper feet so that we had enough to use each number at least twice. Ways to play: I put a number on the board, such as 567,891 and he stomped on each number as he read it out loud. I read a number to him, such as 852,940 and he put it on the board, then stomped it as he repeated the number. The tricky zeroes: When a zero was in one of the places (except for the very last ones place), it made it even tricker. We practiced putting zeroes in one or more places: 700,672 or 750,812 or 789,002. What comes next? I would put 212,799 on the board and he would “turn it” to the next number, followed by stomping out the whole number. Another fun part of the game? Clearing the board! For more fun ways to learn math with your hands (or feet), visit our Math Pinterest board.
