Regrowing Celery!!!! Did you know that you can grow another complete celery stalk from the bottom piece that you cut off and throw away?..worth a try
GREEN THUMB: regrowing celery!
Re grow celery - green onions -never knew it was that easy...
Really? Must try this! "Did you know that you can grow another complete celery stalk from the bottom piece that you cut off and throw away?" I had no idea!
Re-grow celery Did you know that you can grow another complete celery stalk from the bottom piece that you cut off and throw away? This is new to me, too, but I have been doing it this year and it works! I use a lot of celery when cooking and I hope to save quite a bit by re-growing it throughout the spring and summer. *When I bring the celery home, I cut the end off first then put the rest into the refrigerator. *I usually set the bottom piece on a saucer of warm water overnight to get it started. Also, because I am usually busy cooking and working in the kitchen when I do this and don’t have time to plant it right away, I think this gives it a head start. When I have time, I will take that piece and plant it just like it is, in the vegetable garden with the stalk side up. Just dig a small hole, fill it with water and set the end in the hole, then cover it up with an inch or so of soil. Water thoroughly. It will grow a brand new top to be cut and used. After re-growing celery, you can cut and plant the bottom again for more new growth from the top. I plan to start planting my cut celery bottoms in small pots or trays late next winter so that I have a few dozen to plant out into the vegetable garden in May. I wonder if I can grow it in a sunny window all winter! Once you have it growing, you can cut it off on an “as needed” basis and just keep it regrowing in the garden or pot. I may never need to buy celery again!

Growing strawberries (Or any plants!) from a gutter hung on the fence Matthew Fetterer: I have been gutter gardening for a few seasons now and have learned a few things: first use light colored gutters and try but to place them in direct sun light. The soil will dry out in no time, which leads to more maintenance. Second, there is a geleton soil additive you can get at your local greenhouse which holds water in the soil, and that can make the difference between success and failure.

For blueberries to thrive, the soil must be well aerated, moist, very high in humus, and—most important of all—very acidic. These conditions are not, however, difficult to create. Start by doing a soil test, then acidifying it, if necessary to a pH of between 4 and 5.5 by mixing in sulfur, a natural mineral, the season before you plant your blueberries.

How to Grow Organic Blueberries #organic #gardening
I have 3 blueberry plants in my garden and for the last 3 years, they have looked miserable and haven't produced anything. Do you have any tips for my struggling blueberry plants? There is nothing better than fresh blueberries in the summer, right?! While it's hard to say exactly why your plants might be struggling, here are four tips for growing great blueberries. 1. Sunlight Blueberry plants will tolerate semi-shady conditions, but the more sun the better for producing fruit. You should aim for at least 6 hours of sun per day in the summer. If you current location isn't getting that much sun, you might consider transplanting to a sunnier spot. 2. Soil Blueberries prefer well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Ideally, the soil pH should be between 4.5 and 5.5 (remember, 7 is neutral). It's important to know your starting point before adding any amendments, and you can measure your soil pH using an at-home kit. If your soil needs amending to become more acidic, bloodmeal is a good supplement to add, ideally in the spring by mixing it into the soil. 3. Water The roots of blueberries are shallow, so the plants need a lot of moisture. Make sure they are well-watered, and it's better to water deeply more infrequently than to water for a few minutes each day. A good way to ensure deep watering is to set your a hose on a slow drip and leave it on each plant for several hours. A few inches of mulch on your blueberry plants will help keep moisture in too. 4. Pollination Blueberries are pollinated by honey bees, and you need different varieties of plants for cross-pollination to occur and fruit to develop. Make sure you have at least two different kinds of blueberries planted next each other. To encourage bees to visit your garden, plant flowers like borage, salvia, and echinacea nearby. Hopefully these tips are helpful! One alternative that could potentially help address sunlight, soil, and water challenges is to grow blueberries in containers. Many blueberry plants are well-suited to containers and will produce great fruit that way. Good luck with your blueberry growing! This content uses referral links.
