Fishing on Oahu The rugged coasts along Oahu make for some lay-up (as Tom calls them) photos. Everything is quite rugged and dramatic. But, even if it was not for the drama of the scene, I think this fisherman is extra-dramatic! I didn’t see anything actually caught, but I would think it would be some giant dramatic fish.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.

Oahu, Hawaii #travel #beach
Fishing off the rocks of Hawaii. Amazing view of the ocean.
The sheer majesty and power in the waves, you would feel so small and insignificant when you stand and watch the water come in and go back out.

Photographers by BlackLab. Voyeur, hunter and investigator are just a few of the roles that have characterized the photographer when depicted in modern cinema. In Photographers, hundreds of scenes involving this now ubiquitous character are remixed and re-sequenced to expose the clichés, tropes and accidental truisms associated with the medium. As the sole subject of the film, the photographer is turned from observer to observed.
A very different compilation of photography in the movies

The Exploding Wave Oahu had a peaceful coast where the waves would silently roll up on the beach and other, violent areas where the water would smash against cliffs and rocks. I’ll let you guess which of those is happening here! - Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.

World War One, image 42170. Albert Kahn built up an iconographic memory of societies, environments and lifestyles – many of them traditional – around the world. From 1909 to 1931, he commissioned photographers and film cameramen to record life in over 50 countries. The images were held in the Archive of the Planet, a collection of 180,000 m. of b/w film and more than 72,000 autochrome plates, of which the Albert Kahn museum now has the largest collection. http://albert-kahn.hauts-de-seine.net/
