Congratulations to the winners of the 2014 GENEii Family History Writers Contest. The Family History Writing Contest honors writers who show mastery in the genres of Memoir and Literary Non-fiction. 223 entries were submitted by 178 authors. This is more than double last year's participation. The response was truly global. 41 of the 50 states were represented, as well as our first submission from Puerto Rico, a United States territory. The GENEii Family History Writers Contest is dedicated to the memory of Elizabeth "Beth" Maltbie Uyehara.
The GENEii Writing Contest is for factual articles: either family history or local history, character sketches, or memoirs. Winning entries capture a sense of a family’s experience(s), the character of a locality, or reveal an individual’s character and personality. The GENEii Writing Contest is open to the public and is presented each year by the SCGS. Entries must be received between November 1 and December 31. The contest closes on December 31 for each calendar year.
At the annual Worldwide Indexing Event this July, FamilySearch has set an ambitious goal, one that would set a new world record. They are calling for the help of tens of thousands around the world as they try to index names in a period.
