Duende actually means an evil frightening goblin creature in Spanish, and that's what most people from Latin America and the Philippines will understand it as. Spanish playwright Lorca used the word to mean a emotional darkness exuding from the art.

I'm from the Philippines and that's what I know duende to mean! Like a dwarf. But I thought that the Spanish meaning is the one in the image. Thank you for clarifying! :) Emily Walsh

Glad I could help! :) @Debra Williams Yup, its the same thing in everyday speak. If you are in an art class and use the word about a piece then it's understood to be the feeling rather than the dwarf. It's an interesting concept but to be honest, I'd be seriously creeped out if something was trying to touch me from a painting like above, haha! Especially after my Abuela use to tell us if we were bad the duende would come and pull our toes while we slept, creepy stuff. @Camille Juco

I therefore, the prisoner for the Lord, appeal to and beg you to lead a life worthy of the divine calling to which you have been called with behavior that is a credit to the summons to God's service - Living as becomes you - with complete lowliness of mind (humility) and meekness (unselfishness, gentleness, mildness), with patience, bearing with one another and making allowances because you love one another. (Ephesians 4:1, 2 AMP)
