From the Author of "Sarah's Key"..A new book "A Secret Kept"
A Secret Kept [Paperback] By: Tatiana de Rosnay $10 Antoine Rey thought he had the perfect surprise for his sister Mélanie’s birthday: a weekend by the sea at Noirmoutier Island , where the pair spent many happy childhood summers playing on the beach. It had been too long, Antoine thought, since they’d returned to the island—over thirty years, since their mother died and the family holidays ceased. But the island’s haunting beauty triggers more than happy memories; it reminds Mélanie of something unexpected and deeply disturbing about their last island summer. When, on the drive home to Paris, she finally summons the courage to reveal what she knows to Antoine, her emotions overcome her and she loses control of the car. Trapped in the wake of a family secret shrouded by taboo, Antoine must confront his past and also his troubled relationships with his own children. How well does he really know his mother, his children, even himself? Suddenly fragile on all fronts – as a son, a husband, a brother and a father – Antoine Rey will soon learn the shocking truth about his family and himself. By turns thrilling and seductive, with a lingering effect that is bittersweet and redeeming, A Secret Kept is the story of a modern family and the invisible ties that hold it together.
Not as good as Sarah's Key but worth reading.

We're not supposed to be friends, you and me. We're meant to be enemies. Did you know that? -Bruno

THE BOY IN THE STRIPED PAJAMAS - My favorite movie...!
The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas - read the book, then watch the film - both are excellent
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas (2008). This was such a beautiful film. I watched it with my ten year old son who was ignited by this movie. It left a huge impact on him
The Boy In Striped Pajamas (2008) - One of the saddest films I've ever seen.but absolutely remarkable and memorable. Set during World War II, a story seen through the innocent eyes of Bruno, the eight-year-old son of the commandant at a concentration camp, whose forbidden friendship with a Jewish boy on the other side of the camp fence has startling and unexpected consequences.
The Memory Keeper's Daughter
i want to reread this
A classic Holocaust book and a must-read for anyone who is interested in recent history. It was required reading for my Western Civ class, and I'm glad I read it because the next year I took Holocaust history and the books I had to read for it made "Night" look like a cake-walk. Really good book and easy to read, although it's not my favorite Holocaust book. I still highly recommend it though.

Night by Elie Wiesel. so haunting...story of a Holocaust survivor.
Night by Elie Wiesel (1958) Such a good book!
Night by Elie Wiesel-- MY all-time favorite book to read or to teach. No matter how many times I read it, I always find something new. A spine-chilling, terrifying tale of a mere 110 pgs. or so.

Another Anita Shreve worth reading.
Testimony by Anita Shreve - "A New England boarding school is rocked in the wake of a sex scandal in which participants were caught on videotape, a situation that derails the innocence and best intentions of students, parents, and others in life-shattering ways."
Testimony by Anita Shreve - Reviews, Discussion, Bookclubs, Lists
We restarted our neighborhood book club after a 2-3 year hiatus. The first book we read was Testimony by Anita Shreve. I was the one who recommended this book because I am a big fan of hers and the reviews were good. What the reviews did not relate was that the first chapter opens with a very explicit sex scene. We typically stayed away from books with explicit sex. Needless to say we kicked off our restart with a bang [so to speak] and we had a very lively discussion in January 2011.

Book Club Party Ideas for The Help by Kathryn Stockett | ButteryBooks.com
Yes. Now- I'm always about 365 days behind everyone else in the reading world, simply because I boycott popular books for as long as I can stand to: like, say, Emily Giffin novels... can't possibly be any good if that many of my girlfriends actually read them! But The Help, my dears, is worth reading. I didn't want it to end! Now that's the sign of a truly good book... and well-written too! GAsp!
