books worth reading
Chicago: The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair That Changed America is a 2003 non-fiction book by Erik Larson presented in a novelistic style. The book is set in Chicago circa 1893, intertwining the true tales of Daniel H. Burnham, the architect behind the 1893 World's Fair, and Dr. H.H. Holmes, the serial killer who lured his victims to their death in his elaborately constructed "Murder Castle."

The Paris Wife by Paula McLain [to read list]
The Paris Wife: A Novel by Paula McLain, our book club gave it a 9. Historical fiction account of Hemingway's life in Paris with his first wife Hadley. He wrote The Sun Also Rises during this time. Great read.
"The Paris Wife" by Paula McLain. "A deeply evocative story of ambition and betrayal, The Paris Wife captures a remarkable period of time and a love affair between two unforgettable people: Ernest Hemingway and his first wife Hadley." Book Club pick for April, 2013.
After I read Ernest Hemingway's A Moveable Feast, The Paris Wife by Paula Mclain gave me a better understanding of the writer's life with his first wife and other writer friends during the Jazz Age in Paris

The Key to the Gate: The Elegant Simplicity of Plainsong
Worth Reading, Book Lists, Plainsong, Author Create, Kent Haruf, Beautiful Book, Book Worth, Favorite Book, Book Reading
One of the best books read in 2012
Plainsong. I've seen this on a few "100 best books" lists. Someday I'll get to it, but right now I'm on Pinterest
Sounds interesting......A pregnant teenage girl with nowhere to go gets taken in by two old farmers. Sounds weird - but the author creates realistic characters and small town life.
Got this at a thrift store. Now one of my favorite books. An easy read and warming.
PLAINSONG - Kent Haruf

The Key to the Gate: My Prodigal Summer
Hercule Poirot, Orient Express, Worth Reading, Hercules Poirot, Book Worth, Murder Mysteries, Agatha Christy Book, Oriental Express, Agatha Christie
Murder on the Orient Express, Agatha Christie. Recommended by Alden Mauck. Perhaps the most famous of Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot detective stories if not the first. Trapped by avalanche in the snowy mountains of Europe on board the Orient Express a murder has been committed. Can Hercule Poirot solve the case before the train (and the murderer) is freed from the snow? Of course! He is Hercule Poirot who uses the little gray cells.
my first agatha christie book.. and certainly not the last one
A mystery classic that is well worth reading! Some day I hope to take a trip on the Orient Express! There are replica trains that still make the trip! (with art deco furnishings!!!)
Love a good murder mystery by Agatha Christie
The Key to the Gate: Mission to Paris- A Review
Worth Reading, Paris, Hollywood Film, Book Worth, Hollywood Stars, Mission, Novels, Reading Lists, Alan Furst
Mission to Paris by Alan Furst. 12th book in Night soldiers series. From a "New York Times"-bestselling author and the "modern-day master of the genre" ("Newsday") comes a gripping novel of espionage and deception in 1938 prewar Paris. At the center of the intrigue is Hollywood star Frederic Stahl.
Getting mentioned on lots of summer reading lists

Prodigal Summer Read in 2007
Another book club read, but I loved the story of three different women with intertwined lives and the challenges of their environment.
Prodigal Summer by Barbara Kingsolver. One of my favorite books for the location, scenes, and characters.
Prodigal Summer by Barbara Kingsolver One of my all-time Favorites!!! Worth reading again and again
Another favorite. Barbara Kingsolver, a writer praised for her"extravagantly gifted narrative voice" ( New York Times Book Review ), has created with this novel a hymn to wildness that celebrates the prodigal spirit of human nature, and of nature itself. Prodigal Summer weaves together three stories of human love within a larger tapestry of lives inhabiting the forested mountains and struggling small farms of southern Appalachia. At the heart of these intertwined narratives is a den of coyotes that have recently migrated into the region. Deanna Wolfe, a reclusive wildlife biologist, watches the forest from her outpost in an isolated mountain cabin where she is caught off-guard by Eddie Bondo, a young hunter who comes to invade her most private spaces and confound her self-assured, solitary life.

Wow...one of my favorite book club books! Like eating candy without the calories!!
The Fifty Shades of Grey book series is seriously my new favorite. I couldn't put the books down.
Fifty Shades of Grey: Book One of the Fifty Shades Trilogy When literature student Anastasia Steele goes to interview young entrepreneur Christian Grey, she encounters a man who is beautiful, brilliant, and intimidating. The unworldly, innocent Ana is startled to realize she wants this man and, despite his enigmatic reserve, finds she is desperate to get close to him. Unable to resist Ana’s quiet beauty, wit, and independent spirit, Grey admits he wants her, too—but on his own terms-
