A Creative Classroom Activity for Teaching Text Features: Surgery!
Storyworks to draw students into studying “text features” in such a creative way helping students make meaning from text, “Surgery Day,” as she calls it, has children scan nonfiction stories for text features, and they love every minute of it.
The First Grade Sweet Life: Reading Centers compound words on unifix cubes and shape picture sight word game. I can see myself adapting this as a BINGO-esque game with cards and site words or math sentences.
Word Lists for Fluency and Phonics Practice I use these word lists each week to work on fluency and phonics skills with my students. On Monday, I time each student as he& reads the list. I record their time on their paper as well as my class chart.
Fun in Room Rock the Test! We are so making these! I love this! Such an awesome project to do with the kids and way to relax from all the studying, but still thinking and preparing at the same time. A must remember for when I get my classroom!
