Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil-Shots rang out in Savannah's grandest mansion in the misty, early morning hours of May 2, 1981. Was it murder or self-defense? For nearly a decade, the shooting and its aftermath reverberated throughout this hauntingly beautiful city of moss-hung oaks and shaded squares.

Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, a non-fiction murder mystery (or was it self defense?) in the insulated town of Savannah, Georgia. If you're into colorful description and whacky characters, this is a great book. I think now though, I want to see the movie directed by Clint Eastwood.
Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil (John Berendt) One of my favorite books. Kevin Spacey did a wonderful job portraying Jim Williams in the movie.
Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil--an old favorite worth reading again.

Edgar Allan Poe. The Crow: Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered weak and weary, Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore, While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping, As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door. `'Tis some visitor,' I muttered, `tapping at my chamber door - Only this, and nothing more.'

King's heart-stopping dramatic new novel is about a man who travels back in time to prevent the JFK assassination. Jake Epping is a 35-year-old high-school English teacher in Lisbon Falls, Maine, who makes extra money teaching adults in the GED program. Jake's friend Al, who runs the local diner, divulges a secret: his storeroom is a portal to 1958.

Very good...more like the old Stephen King!
In her early thirties, Louise Dickinson Rich took to the woods of Maine with her husband. They found their livelihood and raised a family in the remote backcountry settlement of Middle Dam, in the Rangeley area. Rich made time after morning chores to write about their lives. We Took to the Woods is an adventure story, written with humor, but it also portrays a cherished dream awakened into full life. First published 1942.
Written with humor and color, author Louise Dickinson Rich gives us a delightful look into life in the Northwoods of Maine in the 1940's. She paints the characters, the scenery, and the happenings well.
