Malcolm Gladwell, Read A Book, Gladwell Book, Business Books, Book Clubs, Fascinators Book, Decision Making, Non Fiction, Malcom Gladwell
If I ever decide to read a book that I heard about at work, this will be it
This may not be a strictly "business" book - but a cultural classic questioning entrenched assumptions (business can suffer from these assumptions also)
Our minds use stereotypes to make quick judgments and decisions, but these shortcuts don't always serve us! This is a great read if you're curious about thought patterns, decision making or understanding why the heck some people react the way they do! Plus, Gladwell is brilliantly entertaining and takes care to offer fact-based examples to illustrate his points. Must read.
Just finished, for our April Book club meeting.
Blink (Malcom Gladwell) - The reason I majored in psychology!

Jeannette Walls does it again.....this book is awesome

Half Broke Horses -The life story of Jeannette Walls grandmother. Very interesting book. If you read "The Glass Castle" Jeanette Walls life story this book will answer some questions about her mother and why she was the way she was.
January 2012 - my book club's pick this month - have you read it? what do you think? Description: Those old cows knew trouble was coming before we did.” So begins the story of Lily Casey Smith, Jeannette Walls’s no-nonsense, resourceful, and spectacularly compelling grandmother. By age six, Lily was helping her father break horses. At fifteen, she left home to teach in a frontier town—riding five hundred miles on her pony, alone, to get to her job. She learned to drive a car and fly a plane. And, with her husband, Jim, she ran a vast ranch in Arizona. She raised two children, one who is Jeannette’s memorable mother, Rosemary Smith Walls, unforgettably portrayed in The Glass Castle. Lily survived tornadoes, droughts, floods, the Great Depression, and the most heartbreaking personal tragedy. She bristled at prejudice of all kinds—against women, Native Americans, and anyone else who didn’t fit the mold. Rosemary Smith Walls always told Jeannette that she was like her grandmother, and in this true-life novel, Jeannette Walls channels that kindred spirit. Half Broke Horses is Laura Ingalls Wilder for adults, as riveting and dramatic as Isak Dinesen’s Out of Africa or Beryl Markham’s West with the Night. Destined to become a classic, it will transfix readers everywhere.
Half Broke Horses by Jeannette Walls: a remarkably absorbing novel largely based after the author's existing knowledge of her grandmother. I easily read it in one sitting... I did not enjpy it as much as her first book, The Glass Castle, but it is still worth reading!
Best. Book. Ever.

Amazing read! C.S. Lewis: Mere Christianity - My other favorite Spiritual book. This book make a reasoned argument for the Christian gospel that I can at least understand. It helped me become a middle-of-the road, non-fundamentalist Christian.

Wuthering Heights, by Emily Bronte, is one of my favorite books; deliciously dark.
Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë. "My greatest thought in living is Heathcliff. If all else perished, and he remained, I should still continue to be... Nelly, I am Heathcliff! He's always, always in my mind: not as a pleasure... but as my own being." Wuthering Heights is the only novel of Emily Bronte, who died a year after its publication.
Wuthering Heights - Books worth Reading.
Wuthering Heights, one of my favorite classic novels of all time, even though it can get depressing.
Although a teacher made me read Jane Eyre in high school English, it was Wuthering Heights by another Bronte sister that I read of my own free will, and more than once.

The Hunger Games trilogy, Suzanne Collins. In the post-apocalyptic country of Panem, 12 poor districts are each forced to send two tributes to the oppressive Capitol’s annual Hunger Games: a gladitorial-style competition where the teens are forced to fight each other to the death while the district’s citizens have to watch. But rebellion is already brewing in the districts, and the Capitol gets more than it bargained for when Katniss Everdeen volunteers to take her sister’s place as tribute.

This is a fantastic book! I read a lot and weeks after I finished it I still think about it. The story is happy, sad, and everything in between. At times the parents have their priorities so out of sorts that it is hard to believe it is true, but at the same time, theses same parents make their childern feel loved and confident to take life as it comes.
about to read this one!

This is one of my favorite books of all time! As well as the other one by the same author "Half Broke Horses"
Walls tells her story without it sounding embellished. What makes this book so unique is the author's relationship now with her parents. Authors who end up with healthy relationships never write about that! ~DaShannon
The Glass Castle - a must read book.
this is on my summer reading list.
sad story, interesting message.
Worth Reading, Book Worth, Intothewild, Jon Krakauer, Movie, Favorite Book, Good Book, Into The Wild, True Stories
ALASKA: "Into the Wild" by Jon Krakauer. Chris McCandless, a young man from a family of money, donates all of his savings to charity and abandons his possessions before hitchhiking into the Alaskan wilderness to reinvent himself. This true story survival drama was made into a movie of the same name in 2007, directed by Sean Penn and starring Emile Hirsch, shedding light on McCandless' idealism of a life unburdened by material possessions as well as the harsh realities of the Alaskan wild.
Into the Wild , (wilderness, nonfiction, adventure, jon krakauer, hiking, travelogues, alaska, favorite books, tragedy, true story)
Has Jon Krakauer written anything bad? This was a fascinating true story. Even my 14 year old son enjoyed it - TWICE! Now you know that's a book worth reading.
Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer. Good book and movie.
A beautiful book, and even a beautiful movie... #intothewild
if read with no political mindset, this book can be crazy good.

One Second After Well worth reading
One Second After - March book club
Book Review - One Second After (an EMP attack) by William R. Forstchen- a must read
One of my favorite reads ever! New York Times best selling author William R. Forstchen now brings us a story which can be all too terrifyingly real...a story in which one man struggles to save his family and his small North Carolina town after America loses a war, in one second, a war that will send America back to the Dark Ages...A war based upon a weapon, an Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP). A weapon that may already be in the hands of our enemies. Months before publication, One Second After has already been cited on the floor of Congress as a book all Americans should read, a book already being discussed in the corridors of the Pentagon as a truly realistic look at a weapon and its awesome power to destroy the entire United States, literally within one second. It is a weapon that the Wall Street Journal warns could shatter America. In the tradition of On the Beach, Fail Safe and Testament, this book, set in a typical American town, is a dire warning of what might be our future...and our end.
just finished the trilogy! absolutely loved it!!
