Odin by Johannes Gehrts. Odin (known variously as Woden, Wodan, and Wotan to continental germanics) usurped Tyr as the chief god of the germanic pantheon during the migration period. He is associated with nobility, war, battle, victory and death, but also wisdom, shamanism, magic, poetry, prophecy, and the hunt. The Romans associated Woden with their god Mercury. Woden also shares attributes with the Celtic Lugus - also called Mercury by the Romans.
Chapter 3: 'The all-father made the world,' " - All-father is Odin, one of the principal gods in Norse mythology. He is god of war, death, wisdom, poetry, magic, the hunt and victory. Odin is the same as the Old English Woden and German Wotan.
