if you absolutely must include pics on the menu as per the client, a layout like this is certainly a reasonable compromise.

Also the back ground pattern is the illustration of Natto. Yeah, Natto is so sticky that when you grab some and pull, strings appear between beans. Yewwwwwwwwwwwww. Yummmmmmmmmm
