The Landing of the Pilgrims by Henry A. Bacon (1839-1912), painted in 1877. The painting depicts Mary Chilton stepping ashore. According to family tradition (although this is without historical foundation), Mary was the first person to set foot on Plymouth Rock. Mary was the 15 year old daughter of James and Susanna Chilton, both of whom died in the first winter. She married John Winslow in 1624.
#Thanksgiving Mary Chilton (1607–1679) sailed on the Mayflower as a 14-year old Pilgrim in 1620. She is reported as the 1st Englishwoman to step ashore at Plymouth, New England, America. Now she lies under these old trees in Boston - at center, the tomb with the iron plaque. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=694313613914569&set=a.195124047166864.49726.156099414402661&type=1&theater
