A Weekend in Central Coast, New South Wales
The Monk brings his 2001 Bannockburn SRH Chardonnay to dinner and it does not disappoint. After 13 years in the bottle, the colour of this wine is a vibrant gold. There is complex stonefruit aromas with a velvety palate and long oaky finish. This bottle is truly one of the great interpretations of the varietal.
A Frank Canvas ~ Drawing flavours from the heart
Thelonius and Monk brought a 2002 & 2007 Polish Hill Grosset riesling respectively to complement the seafood though a verticle tasting is obviously inevitable. These wines are some of the best interpretations of the riesling varietal that Australia produces each year. The 2007 has lemony notes with a dry and tight finish that lingers on. It’s a beautiful drop for seafood though it conjures images of Darth Vader for its steely mouth-feel and a hollow middle palate.

2011 Louise Jardot Chablis
Billy Kwong, Potts Point
2010 Rippon Vineyard Osteiner. This wine has sour lemons on the palate and for a four year old wine, we both agree it is surprisingly a little too tart for our liking.
Cafe Paci, Darlinghurst
A 2007 Las Mercedes Ensamblaje is a blend of cabernet sauvignon, shiraz and malbec varietals from Chile. It shows from the soft tannins with hints of cigar box and oaky tones from French oak barrels.
Gems from New South Wales’ South coast
2010 D'Arenberg The Olive Grove Chardonnay
Momofuku, Sydney
Andre Beaufort Champagne $32 per glass
LuMi Bar & Dining, Pyrmont
Theolonius‘ choice of a 2012 Dolcetto Di Diano D’Alba is initially spicy with subtle red fruit. After about an hour, it opens up into smooth and velvety wine versatile with red meat and pasta.
Blackbird Cafe, Sydney
2011 Picante Espana tempranillo shiraz
Chefs Gallery, North Ryde
A 2011 Picante Tempranillo Shiraz is bold and spicy with soft grainy tannins though lacking depth and length.
BASTILLE, Drummoyne
2012 Cake Wines Shiraz
BLACK by Ezard, Sydney
2006 Barolo Monfortino from Piedmonte, Italy
VINE, Double Bay
Ramato in Italian means copper coloured. Our 2012 Marco Polo Pinot Grigio is made with skin contact on the grapes producing an alluring copper colour. Flavours of pear, jasmine and apple combine to produce a refreshing and crisp wine with amazing texture and minerality. This wine is as good as its mark-up from $19.99 per bottle price on many on-line liquor stores.

It’s unusual because the copper pink on a 2014 Tar & Roses Pinot Gris is almost like a rosé. Aromas are fruity with pear and lychee notes. Medium-bodied and crisp on the palate, it has a clean and dry finish
