  • Abin Surly

TaaDaa!!! Based on Vincent Sheean's memoir "Personal History", starring Joel McCrea, Laraine Day, Herbert Marshall, George Sanders and Edmund Gwenn, it was nominated for Best Picture Oscar but was beaten by Hitchcock's "Rebecca". Very good, Cagey One! :)

Hint #2: The director of this had allegedly been involved in the production of several well known German Expressionist films before coming to America.

  • Cagey One

    The Cat and the Canary?

  • Abin Surly

Not The Cat and the Canary, but you are getting warmer. It is a "sound" film. Hint #3: The stars of this film are (erroniously) thought of as rivals, although they did make several films together.

  • Abin Surly

I'm guessing 7 weeks is long enough..."I'm going to flip the rest of the cards and have our celebrity panelists take off their blindfolds,,," http://www.youtube.com/watc...

  • Cagey One

Damn, that was hard! But I feel like I accomplished something! Keep 'em coming! (i'm not so good at my foreign films unfortunately! which for me means not American - "foreign" is different for everyone I realize!)

Movie? Star? and (now famous) Director?

  • Cagey One

Oh definitely chime in!! Lots of people on the Board already play!!

  • Abin Surly

"Memento", Guy Pearce, Christopher Nolan (following "Following").

  • Cagey One

YOU ARE TOO GOOD! I was afraid that scene might not be a good enough hint. Clearly, you're a film badass Abin! Nice job!

  • Abin Surly

Thank you. It's been a while, but I actually went all OCD and deconstructed Memento and put it in chronological order, just for the hell of it. Still a good film but I bow to Mr. Nolan's genius on this one. :D

  • Cagey One

Yes. This is in my top 10 of all time!

  • ~ Moonbeam ~

I do not remember this point in the movie......but that floor tile, I just knew by that! :-)

  • Cagey One

Yes, they had to chip it out because it had blood dripped on it (or so we are led to believe)...

  • Cagey One

Here's a quote i found about that scene "To make the lease story less complicated and fit it into one short dialog in the street, the Bramford apartment in the film is “bigger and more expensive” than “the other”, instead of the other way round. (The “patched carpet”, by the way, becomes broken tiles, as visibly more conspicuous"

  • ~ Moonbeam ~

Thank you Cagey for that! I think I will watch it again!! :-)
