K2 (also known as Chhogori/Qogir, Ketu/Kechu, and Mount Godwin-Austen) (Urdu:شاہ گوری) is the second-highest mountain on Earth, after Mount Everest. It is located on the border between Baltistan, in the Gilgit–Baltistan region of northern Pakistan, and the Taxkorgan Tajik Autonomous County of Xinjiang, China.
After skiing a few hundred feet from the summit, I caught up to Kit and Rob DesLauriers at the Hillary Step. We clipped into ropes to rappel down the forty-foot rock band at 28,840 feet, then skied across to the exposed ridge to the South Summit. Photograph by Jimmy Chin.
