ASTRID KIRCHHERR...she "discovered" The Beatles look...the hair, the clothes, the shoes. She was the German girlfriend of the "lost" Beatle, Stu Sutcliffe, who died of an aneurysm at age 21, right before the band became famous. Her moody, black and white photos of the band when they were living in Germany are still famous. She was and is, a fabulous photographer.
Astrid Kirchherr, Hamburg, 1960. Selfportrait
Astrid Kirchherr the lady behind the lens of many of the very early, pre-fame photos of The Beatles. Talented, beautiful, and intriguing. If Astrid did not invent the "selfie" (I hate that word), she set the bar very, very high with this gorgeous photo of herself. #TheBeatles #AstridKirchherr #photography #1960s
A self portrait of Astrid Kirchherr, the German photographer who was responsible for the now iconic photos of the young Beatles when they were playing in Hamburg as well as becoming the significant other of a (then) Beatle in the shape of the tragic Stuart Sutcliffe

Eugène Atget: Boulevard de Strasbourg, Corsets, Paris, 1912 In Atget’s inventory of Paris, shop windows figure prominently and the most arresting feature mannequin displays. In the 1920s the Surrealists recognized in Atget a kindred spirit and reproduced a number of his photographs in their journals and reviews. Antiquated mannequins such as the ones depicted here struck them as haunting, dreamlike analogues to the human form.

It's hard to believe that not too long ago, women weren't allowed to vote in the US. Things have changed in the US and people belonging to minority groups worked hard to fight for the rights that I have today. I think it is important to exercise your right to vote and I believe it is my duty as a citizen to stay informed with what is going on in the government.
votes for women (step in time)!

Suffragettes ~ 1911 Jordan is at Vassar when women are aloud to vote for the first time in the USA unfortunetrlly Daisy has a meltdown after seeing Gatsby bord a ship to france in New York harber where he dosent even aknowlage her . so basically Jordan has to spend all night in her dorm roon with Daisy whose in histerics instead of being amungst the woman whom would make history by casting their ballets for the first time
1911, my great aunt was a suffragette, and the first woman to vote in her parish. Go Girl!!
Suffragettes ~ 1911 - true grit and grace...Bless every woman who fought for women's rights and winning the women's right to vote!
I think every woman who is against feminism shouldn't vote. Because it is thanks to feminism women can vote today. At the time the photo was taken, feminists were called suffragettes...
The World has some shameful history as in the picture shown below: "Women win right to vote 1920" for God's sake, why in the first place it was forbidden women to vote!? We are in the 21st century and still there are ridiculous restrictions on women around the world. Women are banned from doing a lot of things. Even laughing for a woman has become a subject, even in our modern country (Turkey)! You know people with such bigoted mindset should be banned from the government. That'll be the best

The Temptations are an American vocal group known for their success in the 60s and 70s at Motown Records. The group's repertoire has included, during its five-decade career, R, doo-wop, funk, disco, soul, and adult contemporary music. The original lineup included members of two local Detroit groups: The Distants, Otis Williams, Elbridge "Al" Bryant, and Melvin Franklin; and from The Primes, first tenor/falsetto Eddie Kendricks and second tenor/baritone Paul Williams (no relation to Otis).

LIFE magazine cover session - 1952. Photographer Philippe Halsman. "I drove to the outskirts of Los Angeles where she lived in a cheap two-room apartment. What impressed me in its shabby living room was the obvious striving for self-improvement. I saw a photograph of Eleanora Duse and a multitude of books that I did not expect to find there, like the works of Dostoyevsky, of Freud, the History of Fabian Socialism etc. On the floor were two barbells." - Philippe Halsman

Marilyn Monroe as Clara Bow, 1957. I've always loved this LIFE magazine photo shoot of Marilyn. I've always thought it a great pity -- tragedy, even -- that she had to be marketed as a sex symbol rather than a comedienne.
Marilyn as Clara Bow A sex symbol of the silent movies era, she defined the flapper roaring twenties image. Her bohemian lifestyle and energetic personality made her socially undesired in Hollywood (clearly an era without tabloids and paparazzi’s who would have loved someone this lively). The pressures of fame, public scandals and overwork took their toll on Bow’s already fragile emotional health. She ended up in a sanatorium before eventually quitting Hollywood and dying from heart failure at the age of 60.

Peter Hujar, "Candy Darling On Her Deathbed" - I'm not usually a fan, but find this piece uniquely compelling.
Antony and the Johnsons: I Am a Bird Now (2005) For the cover of his band's second album, lead singer Antony Hegarty honored photographer Peter Hujar by using Hujar's image of famed transvestite and Andy Warhol cohort Candy Darling. In a 2007 homage to the photographer for the Guardian, Hegarty described arriving in New York City in 1990, when much of the city's art community had succumbed to AIDS-related illnesses --
