I was reading Our State magazine over Christmas and saw a story about The Little Free Library. I had never heard of it before. 2013 was a very sad and lonely Christmas for me but just the idea of building one of these little libraries gave me a little joy among the dark days. So on Good Friday 2014, my little library opened its door!
James Spitzer. Portland OR. Located on a corner at a curve in the road, it encourages passing motorist and walkers to slow down look or at least smile at the landscaped mini-park with bench and books shaded by mature birch trees. It is built of the finest discards from construction sites using fine woodworking techniques. Stewards are Jim and Susan Spitzer and Carol and Eric Means. A Grand Opening pot luck dinner drew a couple dozen lovers of literature who made the first contributions.
