It opens with a wallcreeper — a small, beautiful, and territorial bird found in Eurasia — and a miscarriage. It ends with death and muted self-actualization. In between, there is (a lot) of adulter...

The Flame Throwers, by Rachel Kushner. (Scribner, 2013). The year is 1975 and Reno--so-called because of the place of her birth--has come to New York intent on turning her fascination with motorcycles and speed into art. Her arrival coincides with an explosion of activity in the art world--artists have colonized a deserted and industrial SoHo, are staging actions in the East Village, and are blurring the line between life and art.
"To Read" List: The Flame Throwers by Rachel Kushner
The Flamethrowers: A Novel by Rachel Kushner. The Flamethrowers, even more ambitious and brilliant, is the riveting story of a young artist and the worlds she encounters in New York and Rome in the mid-1970s—by turns underground, elite, and dangerous.

Not quite as precious as a coming-of-age novel, Wolitzer’s masterpiece follows the life and times of a group of teenage friends over three decades. Starting in the summer of 1974 and running through the 2000s, The Interestings perfectly balances sweetness, slyness, and sadness — making it the best novel of 2013.

The Interestings: A Novel ~ was on my to read list. I LOVED this book.
The Interestings: A Novel by Meg Wolitzer - new in spring 2013. I had read reviews of it in every magazine, so figured it was worth reading. One of those books I didn't love during parts, but I got more and more involved in it as I went, and it will definitely stick with me. Worth reading.
