Our company began in 1978, with one woman who had a talent for textile design and believed in the discipline of doing things by hand. In 1981, she was joined by a young man named Scott Lethbridge, who also had a talent for design and had reacted instantly and intuitively to her use of color. Their objective was to bring to market all natural fiber products that are the best available in how they are designed and how they are made. Together they have grown Elizabeth Eakins Inc. into an international enterprise. Today, our company's home is a light-filled 22,000 square foot studio in Norwalk Connecticut that contains a design studio, a yarn-dyeing room, a hand-weaving studio and a vast oak assembly floor where rugs are finished. State-of-the-art air filters, exhaust and ventilation systems assure a healthy work environment and reflect our company's ethos of sustainability. Clients are invited to visit the studio and observe the entire process of our rugs being made. There's also a small boutique on premises with ready-made goods that are ready to go. For us, respect of the natural environment, a disciplined work ethic and the integrity of hand work all go together. It's why we use environmentally friendly dyes and believe in lasting relationships with people who work with us. It's also why we believe in respect for the collective community in which weavers are regarded as collaborators. And finally, it's why we believe in producing a rug that can last a lifetime. Staying true to our core values and beliefs for the more than 30 years that we've been in business makes our company one that we're proud to be a part of. And why for so many of us, when we're here, we feel at home.
