Devil's Flower Praying Mantis. RESEARCH - DdO:) - http://www.pinterest.com/DianaDeeOsborne/flowers-beyond-expected/ - FLOWERS BEYOND EXPECTED. Amazing colors & size make it most stunning mantis. Very skittish - stressed out easily- either runs away in panic frenzy, bumping into anything around it, or showing its beautiful deimatic display. When not disturbed, it is very quiet & will generally not move except to grab prey insects quickly when they come close. A true sit and wait bug predator.

A male sea horse giving birth. I love these beautiful little creatures.
Male seahorses give birth to babies.Seahorses are the only animals in the entire animal kingdom in which the male, not the female gives birth and cares for their young! The female seahorse deposits the eggs into the male's small pouch like a kangaroo where the eggs are fertilized and where the baby seahorses grow until it is time for them to be born.
A male sea horse "giving birth" / Seahorse love: they hold tails with their mate when they sleep. Most types of seahorses pair for life. Females lay their eggs inside a pouch on the male's belly. When the babies are ready to hatch, the male holds onto a piece of seaweed with his tail and rocks back and forth until the babies pop out of his pouch!

Day 9: Anna's Hummingbird ♡ Anna’s Hummingbirds are among the most common hummingbirds along the Pacific Coast, yet they're anything but common in appearance. With their iridescent emerald feathers and sparkling rose-pink throats, they are more like flying jewelry than birds. Though no larger than a ping-pong ball and no heavier than a nickel, Anna’s Hummingbirds make a strong impression.

Creatures from Your Dreams and Nightmares: Unbelievable Marine Worms Photographed by Alexander Semenov worms ocean nature
There’s a reason why we haven’t fully explored the depths of the ocean just yet. These marine worms are probably that reason. Photographer Alexander Semenov just released new macro photos of marine worms called polychaetes, giving us a close look (maybe even too close for comfort) at some species that have yet to be explored […]

Beauty in Strangeness: Most Otherworldly Creatures on Earth (Wired article 2013-09-25) • not surreal mythology since we know more of the moon than our own oceans... glowing, ghostly, tiny & perfectly camouflaged creatures of the abyss • photos by marine biologist Alexander Semenov • just because they’re invisible let's not ignore them but enjoy their beauty, sustain them as much as us, before some go extinct due to global warming… • depicted: Limacina helicina (Sea Butterfly, White Sea, Russia)
Marine photographer plans 3 year expedition to study little known sea creatures : TreeHugger “Gelata is one of the least studied groups in the world ocean and even known species are poorly described,” Semenov told TreeHugger. “We’ll try to document every possible moment of their lifecycle and collect as much data for future analysis as we can.”
Have you ever seen a sea butterfly aka the Limacina helicon? It is a lentil-size arctic snail that has a translucent shell and wings, which are evolved from its foot to keep it afloat as it drifts along the ocean and to trap plankton. #JungleJim #Animals #Snail #SeaButterfly #SeaAnimals #AnimalFacts #FunFacts
A truly weird animal by Arthur Anker “The image shows a thalassematid echiuran from Madang, Papua New Guinea. Echiura, or spoon worms, are a small group of marine animals that are considered to represent derived annelid worms. They have a have a worm-like body with a proboscis that projects forward from its head; in some species this proboscis is many times longer than the rest of the body. The thalassematid echiuran constantly changes its shape: these 6 photos show the same individual. “

SeaHorse by Levent Albas, Aegean Sea, Turkey
As of 4/2014 many seahorse species are endangered; some are already extinct. A world without creatures like the seahorse is unimaginably drab, blah and pitiful. May God bless all creatures great and small. #MotherNature is ultimately "in charge" on Earth. The more creatures like this that become extinct, the more the human race itself inches toward extinction. #ThisIsNotSustainable and Mother Nature knows it.
