Besalú is a town in the comarca of Garrotxa, in Girona, Catalonia, Europe. The town's importance was greater in the early Middle Ages, as capital of the county of Besalú, whose territory was roughly the same size as the current comarca of Garrotxa but sometime extended as far as Corbières, Aude, in France. Wilfred the Hairy, credited with the unification of Catalonia, was Count of Besalú. The town was also the birthplace of Raimon Vidal, a medieval troubadour.

Tillamook Rock Light House: built January 21, 1881, the most expensive lighthouse ever built on the West Coast of the United states. Decommissioned in 1957
Tillamook Rock House
Tillamook Rock Light is a deactivated lighthouse on the Oregon Coast of the United States. It is located approximately 1.2 miles (1.9 km) offshore from Tillamook Head, and 20 miles (32 km) south of the Columbia River, situated on less than an acre of basalt rock in the Pacific Ocean. The construction of the lighthouse was commissioned in 1878 by the United States Congress, and began in 1880. The construction took more than 500 days to finish, with its completion in January 1881. In early January 1881, when the lighthouse was near completion, the barque Lupatia was wrecked near the rock during inclement weather and sank, killing all 16 crew members. The Light was officially lit on January 21, 1881. At the time, it was the most expensive West Coast lighthouse ever built. Due to the erratic weather conditions, and the dangerous commute for both keepers and suppliers, the lighthouse was nicknamed "Terrible Tilly". Over the years, storms have damaged the lighthouse, shattered the lens, and eroded the rock. It was decommissioned in 1957, and has since been sold to private owners. It is now an unofficial columbarium, and is privately owned. The light is listed in the National Register of Historic Places, and is part of the Oregon Islands National Wildlife Refuge. It is visible from the coastal cities of Seaside, Cannon Beach, as well as from Ecola State Park.

Morris Island, Charleston, South Carolina. I love this lighthouse, you just drive north on folly beach until the road ends, then get out and walk like ten minutes further. It is abandoned but at low tide you can walk out there.

Morris Island lighthouse at Folly Beach This eccentric and diverse beach town--likes to call itself "the edge of America." Only 10 minutes from historic Charleston, this is a tourist's world: one where there's plenty to see and do.
Morris Island, Charleston, SC - Folly Beach, 10 minutes from historic Charleston. It runs almost 6 miles along the Atlantic side of the island. Folly has had serious erosion problems in the past; the beach was "renourished" a few years ago by mechanically pumping millions of cubic yards of sand back onto the shore, and there's talk about needing to do it again.
Sicily. This looks like the perfect place to run to and hide, just to be alone for once. And let your imagination run free, pretending you're a prince or princess stuck in a castle, or an explorer venturing into ancient ruins. Or to just look down at the forest below, awash in a golden glow from the setting sun.
