Politics "Jeannette Pickering Rankin (June 11, 1880 – May 18, 1973) was the first woman in the US Congress. A Republican, she was elected statewide in Montana in 1916 and again in 1940."
Jeannette Rankin was the only member of Congress to vote against the U.S. entering World War I and World War II.
Today in 1968, pacifist (and 1st woman elected to Congress) Jeannette Rankin led over 5,000 marchers—the “Jeannette Rankin Brigade”—in Washington, DC to protest the Vietnam War.
Jeannette Pickering Rankin (1880 – 1973) was the first woman in the US Congress. A Republican, she was elected statewide in MT in 1916 & again in 1940. Only member of Congress to vote against US participation in both WWI & WWII.

Bannack is a ghost town in Beaverhead County, Montana, United States, located on Grasshopper Creek, approximately 11 miles upstream from where Grasshopper Creek joins with the Beaverhead River south of Dillon.
Bannack, Montana - A ghost town that was one of the first-settled towns in its county. Several reports of hauntings have been made there, including the apparition of a woman in a blue gown named Dorothy who drowned in Grasshopper Creek. A gang of outlaws were also executed in the town and their ghosts are said to haunt the area. There were several epidemics of illnesses there as well, and a reported 8 to 14 infants died in the town.
