Beatrix Potter Illustration for the book «Christmas Eve at Rabbit»
'The Rabbits' Christmas Party - The Departure'. From a series of six watercolour sketches from 1892. A previously unseen watercolour by Beatrix Potter (1866-1943) fetched £289,500 at auction in 2008, a record for a book illustration. The painting, depicting rabbits leaving a Christmas party, was the final piece of a trio painted by Potter, in about 1892. It was sold to a private collector at Sotheby’s in London for nearly five times its upper estimate.
More Beatrix Potter: I love the way she used light in some of her indoor settings for her animal friends.
The Rabbits' Christmas Party - The Departure Hobbs, in the Dulwich Picture Gallery exhibition catalogue, noted "The attitudes are both rabbit-like and human. Only an artist with an intimate knowledge of anatomy could convey so well both musculature and the texture of fur. Remarkable, as in all Potter's animal drawing, is her observation of ears."

Sculptor and artist Louise Bourgeois, photo by Bruce Weber for Helmut Lang Fall/Winter 1997/98 ad campaign
Louise Bourgeois - The founder of a branch of modern art known as Confessional Artwork, Louise Bourgeois was herself not validated by the contemporary art world until 1981 despite being heavily involved since the early 1950s. Her work is unabashadly feminine and often political touching on "womanly" subjects such as Aids awareness and LGBT rights. Most prominently her work is not pretty. To be a woman artist making "grotesquely feminine" work that is accepted by the art world is a huge feat. ...
