Home Dreams Library Secret Door | Flickr - Photo Sharing! Love the secret room to read and meditate in!
Every good library requires the following: - bookcases to the ceiling, broken only by windows (with window seats) and the door, - books; - a secret door to a secret room...!
Sometimes I think that a home library must have a secret door to a hidden room...
Major components of my dream house: a library and a secret door.
Always wanted a hidden door, doesn't even have to be a hidden room. Just the door.

Natural lighting + floor-to-ceiling bookshelves = DREAM LIBRARY.
The bookshelves! The windows! The light! I die.
dark bookshelves, light open interior
two of my favorite things for a house - bookshelves filled with books, and windows.
Living room that practically functions as a library. Dark use of colours, but the room stays bright thanks to the huge windows and lighting.
Modern home library. Huge bookshelves. I like the lights.

yeah! <3 my friend Leaa was telling me about this place- Shakespeare and Company Bookstore, Paris, France. Apparently they house aspiring artists for free above the bookshop... it's my plan B if school doesn't work out. I'll just become an artist and run away to Paris and paint all day above the bookshop...

Ancient "book" of Runes, Norway, 15th Century
Runes, Norway 15th C. Germanic tribes of northern Europe were first to develop runes, but the Vikings adopted the symbols. When the Vikings traveled, they brought runes with them, leaving behind runic inscriptions. Wherever they went, Vikings turned to runes to express both the poetic ("Listen, ring-bearers, while I speak/Of the glories in war of Harald, most wealthy") and the prosaic ("Rannvieg owns this box"), inscribing them on everything from great stone monuments to common household items.
Norway, 15th century. Calendar with weekdays & feastdays in Norwegian on walrus bone or reindeer horn, fastened with 2 leather straps through holes. Calendars in bookform on bone are of the utmost rarity. This is the only specimen in private hands.

The crack of the spine when you open a new book. The smell of the time worn pages of a 100 year old book. The dust from the book you've read 10 times already. But you love enough to read it again. THAT is why kindles don't this kinda magic.
But e-books have a magic of their own. Now, if someone could install the feel and smell of hard copy books - well, and maybe the illusion of shelves of books surrounding . . no doubt, the future will bring some of this to us. --EDK NOPE NOPE NOPE yeah SOME! i like the dust old book off an old shelf, that new book smell, that paper cut you get when turning the page. No Kindels can give you this, i want the real book, robots are our everything now can't we at least keep classic books? ~ME!
"One glance at a book and you hear the voice of another person, perhaps someone dead for 1,000 years. To read is to voyage through time.” ― Carl Sagan
