Tree Rescue The old tree was falling down and the Town Council in their wisdom decided to fell it. But the people of Bideford had different ideas and rose up in rebellion against their council. In the end a local sculptor came to the rescue and sculpted a helping hand to hold the tree up, and the Council held off with their plans to fell it.

"Sadako Sasaki" Monument in Seattle. The Thousand Paper Cranes legend tells that whenever one gets sick, if s/he makes a thousand paper cranes s/he will get better. Sadako who was diagnosed leukemia (due to the effects of the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima by USA in 1945) believed in the legend; however, she could only fold 644 before her death at the age of 12. Her friends folded the remaining 356 paper cranes and buried them with her.
