Madge Gill An outsider artist I've newly discovered and love. Worth looking up if you like drawing.
Madge Gill (1882-1961) Madge Gill was an outstanding exponent of mediumistic art and remains one of the foremost British Outsider artists. She was born in the East End of London, where she spent the greater part of her life. It was in March 1920, that Gill was first ‘possessed’ by Myrninerest, her spirit-guide. Her contact with this phantom figure would be maintained without interruption throughout the rest of her life and Gill's work was often signed Myrninerest
Madge Gill London, England 1884–1961 Madge Gill lived in a children’s home until she was nineteen when she moved to Ilford to stay with an aunt who introduced her to spiritual séances. Married at twenty-three, Gill had three sons, the second of whom, Reggie, died of influenza in 1918. After losing an eye and almost dying while giving birth to a stillborn daughter, Gill began to paint and draw. She usually worked in bed by oil lamp; sometimes she painted in complete darkness. Celebrated graphic designer Saul Bass’ 93rd birthday was two days ago and to honor him, Google is pulling out all the stops. Touted as the “most elaborate” Google Doodle yet, the video plays off Bass’ iconic opening credit title sequences using sharp lines that transform into swirling vortex graphics. Happy Birthday Saul!
Saul Bass (May 8, 1920 – April 25, 1996) was a graphic designer and filmmaker, best known for his design of film posters, motion picture title sequences and iconic corporate logos. (P: In his office, 1970s)
Saul Bass, graphic design pioneer. For the integrity. "It matters to me, I want to create beautiful things."
#SaulBass “There is nothing glamorous in what I do. I’m a working man. Perhaps I’m luckier than most in that I receive considerable satisfaction from doing useful work which I, and sometimes others, think is good.” -Saul Bass (May 8, 1920 – April 25, 1996) was a graphic designer and filmmaker, best known for his design of film posters and motion picture title sequences. (P: In his office, 1970s)
Saul Bass (May 8, 1920-April 25, 1996) was a graphic designer and Academy Award-winning filmmaker, but he is best known for his design on animated motion picture title sequences, which is thought of as the best such work ever seen. Bass was responsible for some of the best-remembered, most iconic logos in North America, including both the Bell Telephone logo (1969) and successor AT&T globe (1983) and United Way (1972).
SAUL BASS- The founder, king of movie title design. Type: Handmade elements Bass had a remarkable ability to express the nucleus of a design with images that become glyphs, or elemental pictorial signs that exert great graphic power. HIs work is not simply the elemental graphics of constructivism. Irregular forms are cut from paper with scissors or drawn with brush,. Freely drawn, decorative letter forms are often combined with typography/handwriting.

Joni Mitchell looks out a window of her Laurel Canyon home in October 1970. - “During the making of Blue, I was so thin-skinned and delicate that if anyone looked at me, I’d burst into tears,” she admitted years later, referring to the messy fracturing of her relationship with Nash and the tentative beginnings of a short, but intense, relationship with James Taylor, then in the throes of heroin addiction.

Photo: Don Hunstein -- Miles Davis, NYC, 1969. I have always loved this Bitches Brew era portrait of Miles by the great Don Hunstein. Miles looks suitably reptilian in this picture I always think...
Miles Davis, 1969 (Don Hunstein) When the photographer shot this portrait of Miles outside Davis' home on West 77th Street in June 1969, the jazz legend was at the midpoint between the sessions which would produce his two revolutionary jazz-fusion masterpieces: "In A Silent Way" (recorded in February '69) and "Bitches Brew" (recorded in August '69). Davis's recent move to electrified instruments is echoed in the psychedelic patchwork vest and custom-made wrap-around shades.

Diane Keaton :: Diane Keaton (age 66): On Aging: "The goal is to continue in good and bad, all of it. To continue to express myself, particularly. To feel the world. To explore. To be with people.
