David Hastings is a chemical oceanographer and marine geochemist who arrived in Tampa Bay in 2000 for the first time. He graduated from the University of Washington with a Ph.D. in chemical oceanography and now teaches marine science at Eckerd College. His research interests include the effects of oil spills on marine sediments and the presence of microplastics in the ocean.
