Books are a hard-bound drug with no danger of an overdose...

my all time favorite book. I won't dare watch the film adaptation.

The Old Man and the Sea

Proust Was a Neuroscientist by Jonah Lehrer. Recommended by the great Liesl Goetz. Great non-fiction that shows how certain modernist artist (i.e. Proust, Stravinsky, etc.) discovered a aspect about our minds which were later proven by neuroscience. HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Night ~ Elie Wiesel is the author of more than fifty books, including Night, his harrowing account of his experiences in Nazi concentration camps. The book, first published in 1955, was selected for Oprah’s Book Club in 2006. Wiesel is Andrew W. Mellon Professor in the Humanities at Boston University, and lives with his family in New York City. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1986.

In this multi-award-winning, bestselling novel, Margaret Atwood has created a stunning Orwellian vision of the near future. This is the story of Offred, one of the unfortunate "Handmaids" under the new social order who have only one purpose: to breed. In Gilead, where women are prohibited from holding jobs, reading, and forming friendships, Offred's persistent memories of life in the "time before" and her will to survive are acts of rebellion. Provocative, startling, prophetic.

Absolutely LOVED this book!

Tolkien - Bilbo, a simple hobbit, likes smoking pipe. When Gandalf appears and asks him to join on his adventure. He is confused & asks the wizard for one day to think about his offer. Gandalf shows up the next day, but before him, thirteen dwarves knock his door & Bilbo is really frustrated, but he a is a gracious host. The dwarves eat, speaking of their imminent journey to an old home beneath Lonely Mountain. Long ago, a dragon chased their forefathers from the mountain & stole their treasure.

I love the work of Agatha Christie, but this is my no.1
