Penny loafers became very popular with young people in America in 1950s and 60s. At that time, pennies were inserted into the instep’s cut-out for decoration, and perhaps as a lucky charm. Girls of that period were also known to sometimes put a dime in their penny loafers, just in case it was needed to make a phone call when they were away from home.
PENNY LOAFERS~ ALTHOUGH WE USE TO PUT A DIME IN THEM.

My favorite shoe in high school. what I wouldn't give for a pair of penny loafers
Penny loafers. The good thing about these shoes were you could upgrade by putting in dimes, nickles, quarters, etc. as the economy changed. My father liked that I would always have money for a pay phone, if I needed it.

I remember Bob's Big Boy in the San Fernando Valley. There were three we would go to on Wednesday Cruise Night in the mid 60's. Canoga Park Bob's, then cruse Van Nuys Blvd. to Van Nuys Bob's, then back to Balboa Bob's on Balboa Blvd. to hang out on the grass in front until you got a table. Loved their Bob's Big Boy Hamburger, French fries dipped in their Roquefort Dressing and a Coke.

Old Store Front Door & They Gave Green Stamps
I loved the old country stores with screen doors.
We loved our trips to the corner store! Running a store ran in both sides of my family. My maternal grandparents (Mamaw and Papaw) owned a little grocery store at one time. My paternal great-grandparents also had a grocery store out in the middle of nowhere. Every country store had wooden floors that creaked and screen doors that would bang as you would come and go.
oh yes.... i remember

Remember the library "check out" card? This was the way to check out a library book. So much easier now. MJ
old library cards - this was the record of who had taken the book out of the library and when, kept in a pocket in the front or back of every library book. It was always fun to see who else had read the book.

Father Time is not always a hard parent, and, though he tarries for none of his children, often lays his hand lightly upon those who have used him well; making them old men and women inexorably enough, but leaving their hearts and spirits young and in full vigour. With such people the grey head is but the impression of the old fellow’s hand in giving them his blessing, and every wrinkle but a notch in the quiet calendar of a well-spent life. ~Charles Dickens
