REVOLUTION playlist - 1964
I'm working with these songs, commercials, television programs and other ephemera within the narrative or in the scrapbooks, in Book Two of The Sixties Trilogy, three documentary novels of the 1960s for young readers. Book 2, REVOLUTION, takes place in 1964 Mississippi during Freedom Summer. I'll put these slides in chronological (in the book) order after publication of REVOLUTION, some time this summer.

The Story of Greenwood, Mississippi | Smithsonian Folkways Recordings
You'll find snippets from this recording in book two, especially the mass meeting chapter. I think this is so integral to understanding the climate of Greenwood, Mississippi, and the civil rights movement in Mississippi, that I want to gift it every school using book two in the classroom. We can't get permission to use Sam Cooke's "A Change Gonna Come" for Revolution (book2). It was the anchor song for scrapbook 1. This is what I'm leaning toward now:I think it will be perfect: "Ain't Gonna Let MISSISSIPPI turn me 'round!" Love this rendition. ▶ "Ain't Gonna Let Nobody Turn Me 'round"- Sweet Honey In The Rock - YouTube
