This Jack stand-alone speaker kinda reminds me of the Joey Roth’s ceramic speaker that caught some buzz a while back. Instead of ceramic, the Jack by An/Aesthetic is hand crafted from concrete and wood. Tip of the hat to industrial designer Ben Wahrlich and graphic designer Kiri Hughes (the men behind An/Aesthetic) for turning out
Sydney’s AN/AESTHETIC design house has produced a new speaker, the Jack. The standalone speaker is hand crafted from concrete and wood, “giving it a unique combination of raw individuality and increased sound quality.”
Jack Speaker is a minimal design created by Australia-based designer Ben Wahrlich. Jack is a stand alone speaker individually hand crafted from concrete and wood, giving it a unique combination of raw individuality and increased sound quality. At first the design appears simple and subtle, but upon closer inspection reveals a highly technical construction method: A complete rethink of the moulding process adopting modern materials, allows a single part line hidden from view underneath the ...
Have you met Jack? Jack Speaker is a stand-alone speaker designed by Ben Wahrlich for AN/AESTHETIC. The speaker is crafted by hand from a unique mix of concrete with increased compressive strength and reduced weight. The accompanying wooden crossbar supports the speaker body, reducing vibration as a damper that fits right underneath a groove in the speaker itself. The simple design and seamless construction – save for the single partline in the concrete cast – is something worth appreciating...

Sean Yu and Yi-ting Cheng began 22™ in 2005 with a desire to create items in both metal and concrete. Inspired by Japanese architect Tadao Ando, the duo set out to rethink ways to use such an industrial material like concrete to make everyday items like clocks and pens.

"Stitching Concrete is a project, inspired by the contrasts of the Material Concrete Canvas. These stools are made by folding fabric that’s impregnated with cement then drenching it in water. It consists of cement layered between fabric and a PVC backing. Once soaked it can be manipulated for a few hours before hardening. A wooden mould supports it while drying within 24 hours. Before that the edges have been stitched together with brightly coloured thread.

It is made of concrete canvas, with colorful threads stitched along sides. To make such a stool, the designer firstly soaked concrete canvas in water, manipulated it for a certain shape and then left it to harden. The finished stools are strong enough to sit, and also fireproof and waterproof.

a chair and bench have been added to german designer florian schmid's 'stitching concrete' works which are constructed from a material called 'concrete canvas' (CC). each seating object is formed by folding the concrete canvas medium which is impregnated with cement when drenched in water. to create just the right forms and proportions, schmid first produced a number of rubber foam mock-ups to create patterns which were then transferred onto rolls of the fabric.

Stitching Concrete, stools made from Concrete Cloth by designer Florian Schmid. concrete cloth is a flexible cement impregnated fabric http://www.florian-schmid.com/ http://www.concretecanvas.co.uk/ #furniture #design #concrete #interiors
German designer Florian Schmid has developed 'stitching concrete', a project which has been influenced by the contrasts of the material concrete canvas (CC). Concrete cloth (CC) is a flexible cement impregnated fabric that hardens on hydration to form a thin, durable water proof and fire proof concrete layer. It combines the softness and warmth of fabric with the stability of cold, hard concrete.
Florian Schmid, Stitching Concrete stools. Stitching concrete is a project using the new material Concrete Canvas. It combines the softness of cloth with the stability of concrete. Once made into the final shape, adding water to the material will harden it almost completely within 24 hours.
Stitching Concrete 19 Aug 2011 concrete . design . textile Concrete Cloth (matériO S0319) is a flexible cement impregnated fabric that hardens on hydration to form a thin, durable water proof and fire proof concrete layer. Principally used in emergency housing constructions, we can now find it in furniture design thanks to Florian Schmid, German designer. Link: www.florian-schmid.com
Stitched concrete...... Florian Schmid is a German industrial designer and the mastermind behind these sensational concrete stools. His project was inspired by a material called Concrete Canvas, concrete cloth that can be molded when wet and then hardened 24 hours later. Should we all say it together? Honestly, WTF!
