The BEST fruitcake recipe. EVER. Too bad there's no pic ... but it's AWESOME.

This is the absolute best fruitcake ever. It's not for "I hate all fruitcake" people, it's for those who might not like the stuff with candied cherries at the supermarket but appreciate very fine work. I use tons of dried fruits from health food stores and Trader Joe's. I also wrap it for a couple or three weeks in booze-soaked cheesecloth. It gets better over time.

I agree, Alton Browns fruitcake is wildly good. Everyone who tastes it loves it..and they put in a request for more the next year. Bravo, Alton.

Fruitcakes are holiday and wedding cakes which have a very heavy fruit content. They require special handling and baking to obtain successful results. The name "fruitcake" can be traced back only as far as the Middle Ages. It is formed from a combination of the Latin fructus, and French frui or frug.
