The vinegar is an acid and great for rinsing pre existing sticky residue. It will work as long as you have have used detergents in the previous cleaning. When it comes to cleaning in general, You always want to use the opposite pH. For Example: We use strong alkalize degreasers to clean oils, dirt etc. And we use Acids such as vinegar and citric acid to clean urine, coffee, tee, detergent suds etc. The art of cleaning is when someone can clean and leave the carpets free of any residue.
