Guitar Blog: Unknown 1960s four-pickup leftie guitar - Can anyone help identify?
Blog Unknown, Pickup Guitars, Guitar Blog, Other Beauties
guitarz.blogspot.com: This 1960s four-pickup leftie solidbody guitar looks in need of a little TLC and a renovation! But what is it? Does anyone out there recognise it? My thinking is that it is probably Japanese, but I'm going mainly by the headstock shape which does seem strangely familiar. The finish on the front of the guitar and the face of the headstock has been stripped. I'm wondering if it may have had some kind of plastic/celluloid coating - could those strange marks on the stripped surface be where it was glued? Currently being auctioned on eBay with bidding at US $109.26 at the time of writing. G L Wilson © 2014, Guitarz - The Original Guitar Blog - the blog that goes all the way to 11! Chester Burnett, known as Howlin' Wolf, American blues singer, guitarist and harmonica player. A booming voice and looming physical presence, one of the best-known Chicago blues artists. "No one could match Howlin' Wolf for the ability to rock the house down to the foundation while simultaneously scaring its patrons out of its wits". Several of his songs, such as "Smokestack Lightnin'", "Spoonful" have become blues-rock standards. #51 in Rolling Stone's "100 Greatest Artists of All Time".

The Teisco brand name stands for 'Tokyo Electric Instrument and Sound Company'. It was founded in 1946 by renowned Hawaiian and Spanish guitarist Atswo Kaneko, and electrical engineer Doryu Matsuda. Teisco guitars sold in the United States were badged "Teisco Del Rey" beginning in 1964. The company was originally called 'Aoi Onpa Kenkyujo' (roughly: Hollyhock Soundwave or Electricity Laboratories). In 1956, the company name was changed to 'Nippon Onpa Kogyo Co', and changed to 'Teisco Co.' in 1964. Teisco guitars were also imported in the U.S. under several brand names including Silvertone, Jedson, Kent, Kingston, Kimberly, Tulio, Heit Deluxe and World Teisco. Guitarists who've found something special in their sound include Hound Dog Taylor, Ry Cooder, Eddie Van Halen, Mark Knopfler and Richard Hawsley (Pulp, Jarvis Cocker). you can see and learn more at these interesting sites: http://plaza.rakuten.co.jp/teisco/ http://www.mark-cole.co.uk/teisco/ http://www.myrareguitars.com/1960guitars.html http://www.vintaxe.com/guitars_japanese.htm http://www.vintageguitar.dreamhosters.com/2002/05/teisco-guitars-part-ii/ -30- .
