Psyche Entering Cupid's Garden: 1903 by John William Waterhouse (Harris Museum and Art Gallery, Preston, Lancashire, UK) Pre-Raphaelite
John William Waterhouse - I love his paintings passionately!
'Psyche Entering Cupids Garden' - The goddess Venus, jealous of the outstandingly beautiful mortal Psyche, asked her son Cupid to cause Psyche to fall in love with the vilest wretch alive. Cupid agreed.

Carpe Diem. Gather ye rosebuds while ye may, Old Time is still a-flying; And this same flower that smiles today Tomorrow will be dying. - Robert Herrick Painting by ~ John William Waterhouse
Gather Ye Rosebuds While Ye May is an oil painting on canvas created in 1909 by British Pre-Raphaelite artist, John William Waterhouse. It was the second of two paintings inspired by the 17th century poem "To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time" by Robert Herrick which begins: Gather ye rosebuds while ye may, Old Time is still a-flying; And this same flower that smiles today, Tomorrow will be dying.

White Flower, Raphaelite Art, Zephyr Details, Preraphaelite, Wavy Hair, Flora, Pre Raphaelite, John William Waterhouse, John Williams Waterhouse
John William Waterhouse - Flora and the Zephyrs detail. Waterhouse's painting shows the moment when Zephyr first set eyes upon and fell in love with Flora, as she gathered flowers in the fields with her maidens and children. He flies down to her, accompanied by his winged companions. and captures her by casting a garland of white flowers around her.

pre-raphaelite-art-john-william-waterhouse-flora-Maria Zambaco by Edward Coley Burne-Jones As someone that’s interested in fashion, I love how the PRB captured their ideas of beauty in a woman. Long, flowing wavy hair, big doe eyes, and a natural glow seems central to this standard of beauty. A lot of the luminescent in these paintings comes from how the PRB painted. They laid down white paint on the foreground and then added color.

One of my favorites : "Miranda" by John William Waterhouse. I love all of Waterhouse's work, but this painting in particular speaks to me of adventure. I love the energy in the ocean and the theme of fair maidens the artist incorporates in a lot of his pictures.

Ophelia, 1889 - John William Waterhouse. The entry in Academy Notes for 1889 reads: "Ophelia lying in the grass, with the wild flowers she has gathered in the folds of her dress. In one hand she holds a bunch of buttercups; in her rich brown hair, which half hides her face, is a coronet of daisies; in the background through the willow-stems a stream winds, and swallows fly low in the air (no sketch received)."

Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema, Unconscious Rivals, 1893, Bristol City Museum and Art Gallery
Unconscious Rivals, (1893), oil on panel,45 x 63 cm, Bristol City Museum and Art Gallery. Alma-Tadema's female figures have a slightly bored pleasure-seeking attitude, as if they were pampered courtesans. There is little action in Alma-Tadema's paintings; here the two women are just probably waiting for a lover. The composition is balanced by the flowers in bloom.
