Genres of Literature

Make a story map of Goldilocks & the 3 Bears – draw a path down the middle of a large piece of paper. Write ‘Once upon a time’ at one end & ‘The End’ at the other. Then retell the story with the children & add basic drawings along the sides of the path (e.g. 3 bears/a girl/3 bowls etc) - take turns walking down the path & retelling the story

Farm Fresh Adventures: Folktales, Tall Tales, and Fables {Oh My!}

This is a set of 24 task cards for students to identify the difference between fiction and nonfiction books. Each card has a a short summary of a book. Students read the card and decide if the book is a fiction book or a nonfiction book. They then write their answer on the recording sheet. An answer key and recording sheet are included. This would work great as a scoot game or as a center activity. These would be good for students in grades 2nd through 5th grade.
