Play It As It Lays | 32 Books That Will Actually Change Your LifePlay It As It Lays is a story about Maria Wyeth, a Hollywood actress who has lost control of her life and identity. It’s a tragic read that will force you into deep self-reflection, as it exposes the fact that we live in a culture where nothing is quite good enough.

The Gargoyle by Andrew Davidson - One of my favorite books. Such a unique story.
The Gargoyle by Andrew Davidson. A book club favorite.
The Gargoyle by Andrew Davidson A wonderful book. I would try to describe it, but I feel my words would not do it justice. But I'll try. It's funny, yet serious, with amusing characters that baffle but seem real to you (they did for me at least). It'll make you chuckle, make you tsk, it'll make wonder, and make you cry (well, it did for me). I don't know what more to say. It is an excellent debut novel worth reading. :)
The Gargoyle - Andrew Davidson [10/10] This is my FAVOURITE book of all time. I've re-read this countless times, and the story never gets old. Historically accurate, heart-wrenching, beautifully written and one of the most unique plots I've ever read. Creative, witty, and the perfect book.

Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie - read in June 2013 . . . 4½ stars . . . (Literary Fiction, Historical Fiction, Nigeria-Biafra war) . . Set in 1960s Nigeria, before and during the civil war that birthed —and then snuffed out— Biafra, "Half of a Yellow Sun" tells the story of a small middle-class family, supporters of the new country. At first, only . . . (please click through to read more).
Nervous Condition is a better read and gets more under the skin. But worth reading.
With effortless grace, celebrated author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie illuminates a seminal moment in modern African history: Biafra's impassioned struggle to establish an independent republic in southeastern Nigeria during the late 1960s. We experience this tumultuous decade alongside five unforgettable characters. Half of a Yellow Sun is a tremendously evocative novel of the promise, hope, and disappointment of the Biafran war.

‘The Swerve - How the World Became Modern,’ by Stephen Greenblatt. Read January 2014
This is one of those rare books that can change the way you think about things. It confirmed some opinions I already had, and introduced me to concepts I had never considered. Do yourself a favor and read it, a masterpiece that deserves its 2012 Pultizer Prize.

People of the Book
Worth Reading, Book Club, Geraldine Brooks, Book Worth, Novels, Historical Fiction, People, Bookclub, Illuminated Manuscript
ABC Book Discussion Group at the Cummings Library in Palm City will meet Friday, September 13th at 6pm to discuss People of the Book. From the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of March, Geraldine Brooks writes about the journey of a rare illuminated manuscript through centuries of exile and war. Inspired by a true story, People of the Book, is at once a novel of sweeping historical grandeur and intimate emotional intensity, an ambitious, electrifying work by an acclaimed and beloved author.
People of the Book by Geraldine Brooks We read March in bookclub which was okay but then although not a bookclub choice, read this one and it was brilliant
This novel, by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Geraldine Brooks, is an engaging mixture of historical fiction, a mystery, and a love story. (The phrase "People of the Book" is a translation of a phrase in Arabic that is most understood as referring to Jews, Christians, and Muslims.) A beautiful book.
Everything by Geraldine Brooks is Worth Reading!!!
Available in Book Club Bags. Reading Lolita in Tehran
Tehran, Worth Reading, Memoirs, Islam Republic, Book Worth, Woman, Book Clubs, Azar Nafisi, Reading Lolita
Memoir by an Iranian woman who teaches English lit at Tehran University during the revolution, and starts a book club for some of her female students ... sounds interesting. I wanna read this.
Reading Lolita in Tehran, Azar Nafisi Once a week for two years, Azar Nafisi would gather a group of students to read Western classics, forbidden in the Islamic Republic of Iran. Accordingly, Nafisi’s “memoir in books” is divided into four sections: Lolita/Gatsby/James/Austen, each allowing her to view a different time in her life through a literary classic, interspersing the discussions she had with her book club with her expulsion from her job, the Iran-Iraq war, and her decision to leave.
Reading Lolita in Tehran: A Memoir in Books.. Worth reading.. Trust me!
